Founded in 1878 by a few enthusiasts Troon Golf Club soon outgrew its purely local reputation. The Old Course today presents a stern golfing examination and in particular the inward half of Royal Troon is widely accepted as the most demanding of any Course on the Championship rota. The Open returned to the Ayrshire town for a ninth time in 2016 when the 145th Championship was played at Royal Troon. Golfers the world over vie to play Royal Troon's famous courses and we encourage visitors to experience one of the most demanding Championship courses on the circuit. Visitors are most warmly welcomed at Royal Troon Golf Club from mid-April until mid-October each year on Mondays, Tuesday and Thursdays.

Fantastic beach visit today - beautiful broad sandy beach, shallow entrance into the water and sand dunes to shelter from the breeze. No problem social distancing. Easy access via Smugglers Trail.

A great mixture of Heathland and Links, influenced in the past by James Braid, make for 27 fine holes at Barassie Links. I played the championship 18 on the day of my visit and after the opening three holes of heather and pines, one makes the short walk to the picturesque par 3 4th hole looking out towards the sea, Ailsa Craig and Arrran beyond. When one returns to golf after enjoying such views, one finds a perched green defended by a running burn on the left and a sloping fall off to the right and behind. A three is well earned! These newer holes run alongside the railway tracks adjacent to near neighbours Dundonald Links and Western Gailes. A great sequence of holes before returning to the heathland variety from the 13th onwards. Everything to keep a golfer entertained and challenged on the Links is to be found at Barassie. Well worth a visit. The greens were in great condition for the time of year and I hope to return to play the course on a fast, firm summers day to get the full experience. @LinksFairways

This is a lovely treat, tucked away on the outskirts of Troon. Brilliant woodland walk with fairy houses and carvings along the way to keep little ones amused. Good park, clean public toilets and nice picnic spot. Kept an 11, 9 and 3 year old happy for an afternoon - which says it all!
