What fabulous views during the daylight, at night even more beautiful when the moonlight hits the sea and the lighthouse lights up….all while enjoying a bit of history

I drove out to South Gippsland today fo find this walk...I am so glad I did. A few days ago , a co-worker and I were discussing things in the area and he had photos. He was fortunate enough to see a brilliant specimen of a tiger snake. I wasn't hunting snakes... I was simply curious why the reserve exists in such a remote area. Mystery solved... it's perfect. Away from civilisation is this gorgeous place... You turn off Walkerville Road onto Bald Hills Road- it's a dirt road that is corrugated, it's exactly four kilometres after turning off. What you will see is farming land as you are driving out there... which is a wee bit underwhelming. When you arrive, you turn into an area with heaps of room for car parking. There are picnic tables not far from the carpark. As you begin your walk, your senses are immediately assailed by the peacefulness of the place... bird life tittering around you. The path is fairy easy to follow, but there were trees across the track and trenches... so while the walk isn't difficult, you could not do this if you needed assistance walking. As I was walking, I stopped to watch an eagle fly not too far from my head... it was so beautiful, so much grace for a large bird. But what I will remember from this walk were the butterflies flying their tangled journeys around me. They were so plentiful and so beautiful. The light breeze sent them on journeys flittering through the trees above the flora. When you arrive at the destination ( ... and here it's truly just as much about the journey) , there is a bird hide. It's fairly new and clearly well looked after. There is a book inside to share what you saw during your walk-- it's a lovely idea. So while there are clearly people walking here that know their bird life... there are also pictures by children. You should add to the story when you are there. I highly recommend this walk... while others mention snakes and animals... I saw neither... but it was still worth losing myself here and resetting.
