St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral was founded in 1905 and is the first and original Greek Orthodox Christian parish of the Tampa-St. Petersburg area. The present Cathedral was completed during WWII, in 1943. Much of the interior marble, including the iconostasis (icon screen), is from the Greek pavilion of the 1939 World's Fair in New York City. The Cathedral contains actual relics of St. Nicholas of Myra and is a point of pilgrimage for those who seek the intercessions of this most beloved of Christian saints. The Cathedral tower is the tallest architectural structure in Tarpon Springs and serves as the heart of the downtown and city. In the plaza to the north of the Cathedral is the famous "Cross Diver" statue which captures the pinnacle of the annual Epiphany Day (January 6) celebration for which the St. Nicholas Cathedral parish is known the world over. At the base of the statue are the names of young men - Orthodox Christian and non-Orthodox Christian - who made the supreme sacrifice during World War II.
We have visited this Cathedral every time we visit Tarpon Springs, usually at least one time each year. We have been there when there hasn't been a service, so we have walked around looking at all the hand carved pieces and enjoyed the architecture. It is located just before you enter the busy area of Tarpon Springs, where all the shops and restaurants are located.

Fred Howard Park consists of 155 acres and is located on the Gulf of Mexico. It's location provides access to the Gulf by a 1-mile long causeway. The white sandy beach is a popular swim area and also provides a perfect location to view spectacular sunsets.
This is a very lovely place to visit! 5 dollar parking for all day. Plenty of kite surfers doing their thing, beach walkers to watch, but overall very quiet until sunset time. At sunset this is the perfect place to take a Spring Break picture so all your friends at home will be jealous! The drive to the park is beautiful but watch your speed. The breeze is heavenly! Must return here again!

A lovely peaceful beach. We go to the beach at least once a week and this was the first time here. The parking is free and there is plenty of it. Love the palms tress on the beach. Bring your own chairs and lunch. This reminds me of a beach from past times, quiet and serene.

Brooker Creek Preserve is Pinellas County's largest natural area at nearly 8,500 acres. Boardwalks and trails (hiking and equestrian) are currently available for public use. Opens every day at 7:00 am and closes 30 minutes before sunset. The Brooker Creek Preserve Environmental Education, provides numerous interactive exhibits, nature store, and resource center. Open Wednesday from 9:00 am to 8:30 pm and Thursday - Sunday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm (closed holidays).
Brook Creek Preserve is a good example of a well thought out and maintained preserve. The map and trails are easy to follow and offer short or long walking opportunities. Also, there are informational placards on the trail. The views of the swamps, flatlands, etc. are very pretty and serene.
A staff member emptying a garbage can was very welcoming.
Although I did hear different birds, I only saw a nice sized turtle on the path.
One can easily spend an hour or more enjoying a stroll through nature.

The Sponge Industry helped build a Greek Community that is now famous not only for the worlds finest sponges, but for some of the finest Greek Restaurants, Markets, and Bakeries in the Country.
We loved the sponge docks in Tarpon Springs. Plenty of places to buy sponges and get an understanding of how to harvest sponges. Homemade soaps, clothing, and lots of delicious Greek food and seafood. Parking for a fee but most places will credit your bill if you show them your parking receipt. Lots of people trying to get you to buy an evening cruise of the area and if interested, just go off the main path for the best deals. Definitely a place we would return to!

If you remember playing pinball - or other kinds of arcade games as a kid, this is a real experience. These guys have assembled three or four dozen machines in vintage ranging from the 1960s into the new millennium.
From the giant "Hercules" pinball machine at the front of the store, to classic video games like galaga, Donkey Kong and a table-top version of Ms. Pac-Man, most of these machines are fully operable and playable.
They also are working on some older, vintage machines and are in search of more. This is a really great place to stop and play the machines, find new ones, and reminisce.
Possibly the most interesting is a hand-controlled "tank" machine that allows you to be your own tank commander.
BTW, they have a vintage Coke vending machine that sits in the front window of the store. We give this five stars for authenticity, value and fun.

Located on the Tarpon Springs Campus of St. Petersburg College, the Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art is a modern and contemporary art museum featuring works from the 20th and 21st centuries.
Were checking out a rental in Tarpon springs so stopped here as we had a 2/1 Entertainment book coupon. On a college campus and a bit hidden but good signage, Small collection of some very nice drawings by some of our favorite 20th century artists. Some good prints and paintings. Lots of stuff by Mr. Rattner that dominated the museum (of course) but we didn't find his work unique or interesting, Nice display,

I recently brought the kids to the aquarium while spending the day in Tarpon Springs.
My son loves snakes and fish and gators and we had read some reviews and decided to give it a try.
The facilities are a bit cramped but there was quite a few tanks an displays for the kids to look at. Right inside the entrance the kids loved the open aquarium where you can observed various crabs and turtles that you can touch as well.
There were also some large snakes including a albino burmese python that the kids got to touch as the owner held and gave a group discussion on. The place was quite educational and the owner was very knowledgeable. I do hope the new facility is more spacious and offers bigger tanks for some of the fish including the sharks and groupers.
Overall its a pretty neat place to visit and take in for a small price.

Nice park and surrounding area. We went to the Bayou over the holidays and it was pretty crowded. There are lots of huge trees and places to sit plus there is a walk along the bayou that is very nice.
