Residents of East Java’s steamy capital know how to catch a breeze—whether they’re lounging at rooftop bars or exploring side streets on bicycle-powered rickshaws. While the historic trading port bustles with modern commerce, ancient cultures mingle in the Arab Quarter and Chinatown.

Visit the spot to feel the ambiance of heroic struggle of Arek-arek Suroboyo (Surabayan Youngsters) to defend their city back in November 1945. Make sure to go down into the museum that offers rich history as well as chic souvenirs.

First time to Surabaya? Don't miss this attraction spot. Located exactly in front of Surabaya zoo, the Suroboyo Monument stands as a remembrance to the history of how Surabaya came to be. This marks the bravery (symbolized by crocodile) of the local kingdom back in the past when defending their area against intruders (symbolized by shark). Enjoy the the photo session too as there are many photographers around especially during the weekend.

As it goes with my title.. This is a must place to visit in Surabaya. Seriously, you have to clear your schedule for 1 or 2 hours, then go there. The museum is free to enter. On second floor, you can see the old "kretek" (Kretek are cigarettes made with a blend of tobacco, cloves and other flavors. The word "kretek" itself is an onomatopoetic term for the crackling sound of burning cloves) factory. And what I love from the second floor is that souveniers are sold there! Unlike common souveniers that you can easily find on the street, they sell something more unique. But note that almost all souveniers have very strong odor of the "kretek".

connecting bridge between the island of Madura and the island of Java, the location is to the north of the city of Surabaya, you can reach it via Jalan Kenjeran (East Surabaya), I still remember for the first time I wanted to try Sinjay Duck when it was not yet in the city of Surabaya, I along with our friends drove to Madura Island, to the Bangkalan area to queue up the delicious super duck food, at that time the bridge had not been officially opened, there was no street lighting, access to the island of Madura was still free, I remember those beautiful moments with friends.

This mall is very recomended for friends, couple and family. There are weekly events, such as concert, live music, auto motive exhibition, etc. What I like is the TLC restaurant, as there are many upscale restaurants here, I think TLC is the most convinience restaurant with reasonable price, unique decorations and many promotion during lunch or Happy hour

Impressive high end mall represented by all the international brands covering 4 floors . You could spend a whole day here in comfort as there are a lot of restaurants and food outlets to choose from. Try the food court at L4 where they served an interesting range of local foods -prices are very reasonable.

This place consists of 3 main building, PTC for middle to lower class, Supermal for middle class, Pakuwon Mall for upper middle class. I myself prefer to spend time in Pakuwon Mall than PTC / Supermal. It is located 20 minutes drive from the city center and located in a developing area of Surabaya. Some of the tenants are: - H&M (first store in Surabaya) - Uniqlo (second store in Surabaya) - Bershka (first store in Surabaya) - Stradivarius Man (first store in Surabaya) - Mango Man (first store in Surabaya) - Pull & Bear - Zara - Sogo Dept. Store - Matahari Dept. Store - Hypermart - Lotte Mart - Sephora (first store in Surabaya) - IMAX - Cotton On - Marks & Spencer - Bakmi GM - etc
