Known as "Train Town USA," historic Strasburg is the home of numerous rail-based attractions. Take a 45-minute ride on the nation's oldest short-line railroad or wander through the halls of The National Toy Train Museum or The Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania. Strasburg and the surrounding Lancaster County are also home to the Amish, making it possible to visit a traditional Amish Village, ride in horse drawn buggies, shop for handmade goods, and try the cooking of the Pennsylvania Dutch.

I have been stopping at the Bird in Hand Bake Shop for decades and each visit is better than the previous! When you walk inside, you are greeted warmly by the Amish and Mennonite workers and can smell the delicious aromas of their baked goods. No matter what type of baked goods you like, they have it! From all types of cookies (including sugar free and gluten free options) to breads to pies and sticky buns, there is something that you will love! During the summer, their ice cream also appears to be a popular option too!
In addition to their baked goods, they also sell souvenirs and locally made crafts. While some of their souvenirs are generic (i.e. stuffed animals and Christmas decor), most of it is locally made (quillos, cookbooks, Amish made keychains, coin purses, table runners etc.).
Outside, there are areas to sit and relax and watch buggies passing by. For the little ones and animal lovers, there is also a small petting zoo which you can visit. During the warmer months, an Amish run pretzel stand (based in a food truck) is on the property and sells pretzel dogs, pretzel sandwiches and other goodies.

Plan to stop by The Old Country Store, the oldest store in the heart of the village of Intercourse, when you visit Amish country in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Our local Amish and Mennonite craftspersons create thousands of handcrafted items that marry beauty and function. They, too, shop in the same store as you who come to discover their creations. From their homes to your home!
It was Quilt Week in Lancaster, and we went to this well-known store that features quilt fabric, products, kits, books, and even more. Beautiful stuff and friendly staff. The reason for four stars instead of five was because it was so crowded, you almost couldn't move. I feared that would happen since MANY quilters would be in the area.

Over 70 years in the making, this gigantic model train layout is still owned and operated by the Groff family. Master modeler, Tom Groff, designs and adds new animations, scale buildings and local scenes each year. See a fire engine race to the rescue to put out the fire at a burning house – with real water! Watch in awe as night falls over Traintown, USA. You’ll recognize local landmarks like Dutch Wonderland and the Strasburg Railroad – in detailed miniature! This is much more than a train display – it is an amazing, hand-built work of art.
Back at the Choo Choo Barn again. This time to see it decked out for Christmas. As usual, we weren't disappointed. All of the Holiday decorations and little additions were perfect. And during when it's "nighttime" there, some of the decorations and Christmas trees even light up. Plan on going around the display at least twice in order to see some of things you might have missed the first time.

American Music Theatre is the only theatre of its kind in the country that features both touring concerts and Original Shows. This 1,600-seat theatre hosts more than 300 live performances a year – from Broadway tours to rock legends to famous comedians to today’s hottest acts. Since its debut in 1997, they’ve welcomed Grammy winners, CMA winners, Tony winners, and even Oscar winners to their stage. They’ve also featured some of the most talented musicians, vocalists, and dancers in the nation in their own Original Shows. No other theatre in the region offers a wider variety of performances, year in and year out. Take the opportunity to catch a show in the comfort of one of the most premier venues on the East Coast for live entertainment.
We always love the shows at the American music theater. The Christmas show was spectacular. The voices, the dancing, the music, the costumes all made to show a wonderful experience. I do wish the staff would be a little bit friendlier. Many seem to lose their patients very quickly when asked questions. Maybe it was just the hecticness of the season.

Bird in Hand Farmers Market is a must stop when we are in the area. The place is ram jam packed with so many varieties of goods, foods and deliciousness. Breads, jellies, meats, veggies, fudge and my two weaknesses…cheese & beef jerky. It’s a great stop to make before heading home from your visit to the area. All in all…definitely give them a try!

This farm offers the Maize Maze attraction in 10-foot-high corn stalks.
$20 per person including kid over 2. Basically a tourist trap that is about as authentic as Iranian tequila

Although we paid for both courses, we only did the longer course. Because of the lines at each hole (and we chose the course with the shortest line), it took us a few hours just to get through these 22 holes. Although the shorter course...MoreCan't wait to see you back again! So glad we could be a part of your great day!
