I like looking at structures.. old barns, old bridges, old buildings, old houses, old forts, and old ships all fascinate me. I am intrigued by the things that were built by humans. The structures of yesteryear are slowly going away; some by natural age, some by natural disasters, and others because of neglect, deterioration, or not getting used. You have to see them before they disappear.

Very sweet but be aware if kids over 5, it is a quick walk through, not a destination. Definitely geared for toddlers only. Adorable teddy bear sculptures that begged to be climbed on with signs forbidding it. Great spot for little ones.

I've taken up bike riding as a way to enjoy the outdoors and also restore my balance from a brain infection. It's been a life saver, literally. We moved to this area in Fall, 2016 and I sometimes have to pinch myself to see if I'm dreaming. The whole area is beautiful and this trail, along with so many others, is beautiful. I especially like to descent into Stillwater along the Brown Creek mini gorge and can't wait to experience my first full fall riding this trail!!!

Maple Island Brewing is located in historic Stillwater, MN. Sitting a stone's throw from the scenic St. Croix River, Maple Island Brewing specializes in smaller batch specialty beers including Burlesque Kolsch, Mosaic Wheat, Dragons Breath Kolsch, Bearded Lady IPA, Peel Me Wit and Cup of Joe Freak Show. Large taproom accommodates 300 people, with additional seating on the patio. Stop in for a pint!
This place is great to walk in and grab a craft beer. Good amount of seating outside with a view of the Saint Croix River and the old lift bridge. The beer was excellent craft brew with a local twist. Local artists display their work for sale which brings a good vibe while sitting and sipping your favorite type of beer. The only thing that would make it better was if they offered some small apps or small dishes but, free popcorn is available.

Completed in 1870 The Washington County Historic Courthouse served as the administrative and judicial center of the county for more than a century. In 1971, the Historic Courthouse was placed on the National Register of Historic Places as the oldest standing courthouse in Minnesota. In 1975, official business moved to the new government center and a new vision for this architectural gem was developed which included history-related exhibits and activities. Today, FREE guided public tours are offered Monday through Saturday and include the historic courtroom, exhibit rooms and old 1900 county jail. On a tour, your guide will lead you through some important historic moments in Washington County history while touring the historic courtroom, 1900's County Jail, and exhibit spaces. Donations are accepted. In addition to public tours, the Historic Courthouse also offers private tours, school & large group tours, community events and meeting & special event space.
Took the nook and crannies tour with 2 adults and 3 teenage boys. This tour is only offered in October I understand. It was worth the drive. We got to see the whole building. The boys loved the jail cells and peep holes. Lots of history here, entertaining for everyone. There are a few small exhibits that are open year round. Our tour took about 45 min with a donation only. Glad to donate to this renovation group and preserve some history. Will go next Oct for sure!

Great property with beautiful buildings. We went for the wine and cheese tasting this past weekend and were not disappointed. The cheese that was paired with their wine was fabulous...the staff was well-versed in the grapes and explained everything wonderfully. You can purchase a bottle of wine and sit on the deck and enjoy the beautiful Spring weather.

Grab a sandwich from River Market Co-op and walk down to the park to enjoy amazing people watching, river activities, and often live bands. You will never be disappointed with your time there. Bring a huge blanket and hang out for a while. Dogs are welcome, and people are very friendly. A kite of frisbee could make your time even more enjoyable.

Former home of Stillwater State Prison's warden.
I did this for the first time last weekend. What a bargain! It is only $1 for students and $5 for adults. We had a great tour guide (younger man in his 20s or 30s) and he did a wonderful job explaining the artifacts from the time period. They have a whole room full of lumberjack tools and the guide explained so much about how logging was done and life for the lumberjacks. Of course, there was also great information about the people who lived there, in the house, and the prison, but I found this to be an excellent museum and tour about the early founding of Stillwater and the state. They have some great books for sale and the tour runs about 50 minutes. I would recommend this for adults and children over 8.

No entrance fee, lots of adult watching with cider and winery, plus the traditional apple picking / applepie/apple donuts stuff. Haralson apples reasonably priced at 2.29 per pound.
Long lines for kettlecorn and the rides. Add more picnic benches, live music and cider bottles way under $13 and you have something appealing to the empty nesters as well.

Imagine a magical collision of the Apostle Island ice caves, frozen waterfalls, and glaciers -- formed into towering organic archways, tunnels, and more!
We spent an hour walking around inside the castles and had a great time. Went down both slides (and we are 39 and 41)! The lights are pretty and the cider was delicious. We went at 5:30pm, and it was getting pretty busy when we...MoreWe're so happy to hear about your experience! Thanks for visiting!
