The only state historic site in North Carolina which interprets the French and Indian War.
My husband and I stopped here out of curiosity. It was really a good and informative visit with the young man working there, dressed in period clothing and cooking. We saw the little garden, and also were informed that they would be building a replica of a building that once stood there. Very happy to say that work has started on the project!

Six acre corn maze on a family farm. Visitors can ride the cow train through the field, shoot the corn cannon, climb a corn mountain, play life-size corn checkers, enjoy homemade farmhouse treats at the concession stand, and take home flowers and pumpkins from the produce stand. Opening day, Saturday, September 28, 2014
I went here with my 74-year old mom and my 76-year old dad for my mom's birthday. We had fun wandering through the maze. The man in charge of the place and the corn maze staff were helpful and very friendly. Some of the areas weren't quite set up (fire pit) and ready on the day we went due to some staffing problems, but we still had a good time.

Established in 1956. Iredell Museums began on Museum Road in the Old Waterworks Building. In 2004, Iredell Museums merged with the Children's Museum and was relocated to the Court Street Gallery in Downtown Statesville. Today, the Museum operates a main gallery space on Court Street and Gregory Creek Homestead.
The museums offer changing displays and range from mummies to local history. Statesville was once a very important city in the piedmont area. It is very interesting to walk around and read the detailed descriptions of the exhibits.

This is still a work in progress being done in phases but already a great place to walk and unwind.
It next to Twin Oaks Golf Club and straddles the creek that runs by it. Nice gravel paths with little of no grade to them makes for a pleasant non strenuous walk or for a light jogging path.
Not much traffic yet but will probably increase over the coming years. The name Bigleaf come from the type of trees found on the creek banks. Limited restroom facilities but they are available. I would guess the total lenght of the trail to be somewhere under two miles.
The amazing thing is the peace and quite and you're just north of busy US Hwy 70.
I'm glad the City of Statesville chose to create this park with trails and preserve part of the greenway for the future.

From the first wooden bicycles to those of modern day, this is a "must" stop for anyone interested in bicycles. Two floors of prototypes, Tour de France bicycles, Stingrays, as well as art and store advertising that go back to the 1920s. Housed in a beautiful old building from the 1800's. Be sure to look UP at all the stuff hanging from the ceiling!

Built on the site of an old landfill the trash will sometimes peek out from under the tree roots. It is tight with switchbacks. Locally maintained by the Tarheel Trailblazers mountain bike club.

This park is well laid out, with walking trails, football pitches and restrooms, but the thing that most intrigued me was the Disc Golf that was being played - apparently the rules are similar to regular golf, in that there are 18 baskets (instead of holes), and each hole is graded for average number of throws to get the Disc in the basket. I had never heard of this game before, and was most grateful to the young man who explained it to me.

When I started working in Statesville back in 2009, the handwriting was already on the wall. The anchors were still in place (Belks, J.C. Penney's, Sears) were still in place but due to the recession, occupancy was down. Down the street, Harris Teeter, the major grocery chain in the area had pulled out of the market.
Still it was nice place to go and you could still have a good day of shopping.
Times have only got worse for the Mall. Since then J. C. Penney and Sears have closed. Belk is still there and while good, does not carry the same diversity as other Belk stores in the area. I guess in a push come to shove category, my favorite store of the few remaining is the Jewelry Store.
The only had two food venues. One of which was JD's Market and Deli which closed the day before Thanksgiving last year and reopened the day after Thanksgiving as Al's Deli. Jury is still out if they survive and I have dined there once with less than good results.
The other is IHOP. They are building a new IHOP at the old Golden Corral location on Turnersburg Rd (Hwy 21) and doubt that there is enough business to support two locations in Statesville. I may be wrong but I would suspect this location ar the Mall will be limited hence another loss for the Mall
