Spelthorne Museum

This is within the Staines library and I have visited a number of times with my kid - the reason is, it will take more than one visit to get everything in your mind and during each visit, my kid had 10 minutes of patience - having said that, it was interesting enough for kids to remember each detail from dinosaur days, to the older layout of Staines to older equipments and kids ask a lot of questions (as usual) for each exhibit - a great learning experience. If you try to get all the info in one visit, it may bore them. However, a few mini visits and kids actually look forward to this place!

Lovey place to have a picnic or to paddle near the Thames. Not very large takes about 15 mins to walk the island, great for dogs and kids, toilets and ice cream van in summer due to the canal lock, near a large park and lovely river walk very close, lots of boats too, can flood in winter

Staines Bridge

Reviewed By wolfgangp163 - Greater London, United Kingdom

Staines Bridge is a beautiful crossing of the River Thames and providing fantastic views across the river from either side. It's serving a busy main road, but has wide pavements to allow pedestrians to be safe and relaxed. It's within easy walking distance from the town centre - and it's well worth to go down to the river and walk alongside the tow path. A specific arch is provided to walk underneath Staines Bridge directly by the river. Walking along River Thames on the tow path, one comes after a few hundred yards to a small wooden pedestrian bridge crossing the River Colne as it's flowing into the River Thames - there's monument marking the location where the 2 rivers join. Another few hundred yards is a picturesque boat mooring point with a little park and a replica of the London Stone. Lovely!

St Anne’s Well

Reviewed By TalDarkLeanMean - Staines, United Kingdom

Apparently there are dozens of holy wells from medieval times all over the country and they are all named after St Anne who was the mother of virgin Mary and grandmother of Jesus. This one (according to the sign) provided water and had healing properties unlike some that were cursed. It is located in Stanwell so I guess it provided locals more than just water. It is locked inside a metal door and there is no indication from outside that its an historic site except just one small hard to read sign. Back then pilgrims used to travel to such sites to baptise their youngs and to bath/drink the holy water to heal and wash away their sins. Maybe it has served its purpose by healing everyone around before running dry. Mineral rich natural springs are found all over the world that contain calcium, potassium, magnesium, sulphur etc. Now we have all these healing properties aka chemicals added to our water by suppliers to strengthen our belief system so the use of holy well is no longer required.
