The Norwegian Glacier Museum is an award-winning hands-on museum, situated in Fjærland next to the Sognefjord. The museum is the leading centre in Norway of knowledge with regard to glaciers and climate. Do not miss the unique and staggering panoramic film about Jostedalsbreen – the largest glacier on mainland Europe - and its National Park. In an entertaining and exciting manner, you will get answers to questions like ‘Why is glacier ice blue?’, ‘Why is the fjord green?’ and ‘How were the fjords formed?’. You can even perform your own experiments with 1000 year old ice from the nearby glacier Supphellebreen. Another 'must do' is the exhibition about climate changes! The museum is also a visitor centre for Jostedalsbreen National Park, and was designed by Professor of architecture, Sverre Fehn, who received the 1997 Pritzker award. The museum opened in 1991.
Located at the bottom of continental Europe's largest glacier, Jostedalsbreen glacier, this small museum delivers a great deal of information about the formation of glaciers, as well as information about climate. Many of the exhibits are interactive and the movie about Jostedalsbreen glacier is well done.

Enjoyed a wonderful fjord journey to the villages among the glaciers – Balestrand and Fjærland. Along the fjord we passed tiny villages, waterfalls and steep mountains. Fjærland is located where the glacier meets the fjord. The green water of the melted glaciers is something unique. This cruise is beautiful . This trip takes you to the edge of the Jostedalen glacier which is the largest in Europe ( total area is about 487 sq km, bigger than some countries ) This glacier has many branches and one of them is the first one we saw - the Supphellebreen glacier and the second one was Boyabreen glacier. Visited the Norwegian glacier museum (built by renowned architect of Norway - Sverre Fehn )which gives one interesting facts of these glaciers. Amazing to see how Norwegians harnesses the power from the waterfalls of these melting glaciers and this provides power to almost 2500 homes.

Our resort got 5 ski lifts. The variety in the terrain and slopes open up for fun, easy and also challenging skiing, for the whole family. The skiresort is one of a kind. The birchforest close upon the pistes offer some of the best powderskiing in the world, when the conditions are right. The skisenter got 5 km off lighted cross country slopes and additional 5 km slopes for daytime use. In the weekends we also mold 25 km of slopes up in the mountain. With skins on you skis you can easily walk from the top point, for some real big mountain skiing 950 height meters in our "secret backyard" . As everywhere else, all skiing outside the skiresort itselfs, you need to due care, regarding avalanches. Sogndal Skisenter provides a variety of overnight possibillities. Preferably we recommend you to stay in one of the luxury cabins in the center. You will find them in al priceranges. If you prefeer hotel, we recommend you to stay in Sogndal, only 13 minutes drive down the valley.
