Sigtuna is a picturesque lakeside town steeped in Swedish history. Founded in the late 10th century, it’s the oldest town in Sweden and still retains much of its medieval charm. During the Christmas season it becomes an even more magical place, as holiday markets pop up all over the city, selling local handicrafts and fragrant goodies. Paddle along Lake Mälaren, marvel at church ruins and runic stones or just explore the shops of the charming main street.

Welcome to Augusta Janssons Sweets Factory in Sigtuna! This little venue offers old fashioned sweets and chocolates in a traditional and historic environment. Stop in for bonbons, lollies or locally made chocolate in various flavours. Reminisce in candy, the way it used to be made.

This old church is impressive and it feels so great to walk there and to see it. If the old stones could tell stories, it were .... there are tunes around it and ruins of huge old churches. Sigtuna is such a great place!

One of Sweden's oldest stone churches, St. Olof's dates back to the 12th century.
Sigtuna is Sweden's oldest town, dating back to Erik the Victorius time (pre-1000). It's not a surprise that it has a number of ruins then. St Olof's Ruin happens to be one of them and it has a cemetery, too. It is the ruins closest to Mariakyrkan (the church) and to the Församlingsgården Munken (meeting venue connected to the parish). I wish I can attend a guided tour of this place someday. I am already impressed with what I could see, but I imagine there are even more interesting facts to know. Yes, there are small info boards around and I have read them, but I am convinced there are more to know. Will visit again.
