Two hundred and fifty years of history are preserved at the William Floyd Estate, which contains architectural features and artifacts from three centuries of American life. The Estate, which was donated to Fire Island National Seashore in 1965, is located on the mainland of Long Island in Mastic Beach, New York. The estate contains the ancestral house, grounds, and cemetery of the William Floyd family. William Floyd, a Revolutionary War general and a signer of the Declaration of Independence, was born in the house in 1734. Between 1718 and 1976, eight generations of Floyds managed the property and adapted it to their changing needs. The family used the house and property in different ways over the years. In colonial times, the Floyds ran a huge plantation; later, the family turned to business and politics, and the lands were used for outdoor recreational pursuits like hunting and fishing. The 25-room "Old Mastic House," the twelve outbuildings, the family cemetery and the 613 acres of forest, fields, marsh and trails all graphically illuminate the layers of history.
I realize that the tour guides are volunteers, but we were very disappointed. We took the tour with one other couple, at 2:30 pm on 9/10/16 and were disappointed with the guide. She did not speak clearly, she often spoke so rapidly that, considering her poor articulation, it was a struggle to understand the history and facts she was presenting. She seemed to be rattling off a bunch of memorized emotionless words in a monotone voice. Please try to provide better training for such important presentation of history.

This was an exciting afternoon for all on Cupsogue Beach. The more so that crashing water from the big surf continually cascaded over the high point of the beach as High Water approached. Walking in the surf, trying to stay upright as the undertow rushed backwards down to the sea, people watching and just sitting relaxing all contributed to an exhilarating experience.

Come to learn or enjoy the scenery or both. This is great for kids and older folks who just want to walk in a safe, natural setting.

Those 230 names on the memorial were etched in stone for those who travel to it to remember them. Sizable well planted and maintained well. A fitting memorial, in a perfect setting.

What I love most about this place is that it's not really a "tourist" destination.. it's more of a hidden secret to those in the know. My wife and I made our pilgrimage this May but can't wait to go back specially when the leaves.. I can't even imagine the beauty of this place during the fall season

Closing night for Rent and the play was dynamic, cast was passionate, music was compelling and the choreography was dramatic. Highly recommend this cast and play. Wonderful venue! We are season pass holders and thoroughly enjoy The Gateway.

Our family of four just escaped the Hidden Temple Room! What a fantastic time we had. The room was challenging, but not impossible. Our GameMaster Brandon was helpful and enthusiastic. Long Island JetSki Rentals is proud to offer the NEWEST and BEST jet skis on the water. No experience is necessary to operate or rent a jet ski. Our renters can ride freely as long as they keep our staff boat in sight.Come experience this exhilarating water adventure on Long Island! Cruise the Great South Bay on one of our new 2015 and 2016 Yamaha VX waverunner PWC (Personal Water Craft) jet skis.
We just came back from our third annual visit to LI Jet Ski and had a wonderful time yet again! Our groups have ranged from children as young as 9 to seniors (70 years old)! Needless to say, we love it here. Every employee we encounter has been pleasant and helpful. The jet skis are quality machines, and before you head out, you are given thorough instructions on the use of the ski and safety. They even provide bug spray.
Yes, there is a leisurely cruise through the canal (5-10 minutes), before you get into the bay, but you get your full time out in the open water. I cannot express how much fun this is! I have checked out some of the local competition, and Jet Ski LI is truly the best; professional, personable staff as well as a HUGE area of bay to use!
After our first trip, we got on the e-mailing list, and we regularly receive discount opportunities. A special shout out to Anya (sorry if it is spelled wrong), who helped us on our most recent trip! We can't wait for next year.
