A fantastic place to get your favorite hot or cold beverage that will give you that needed thrust for the day! Extra time to relax or browse? Tons of creative items to choose from for the "gift giving shopper", decorative, cleaver, fun and sweet tooth teasers. A great place to sip and read the many books that are available for customers to enjoy. I have found the staff to be very friendly and the atmosphere very inviting.

Roadrunner Trail is an outdoor fitness trail organized by the City of Shelby. There is an asphalt route through undeveloped hills and past Lake Shel-oole that is approximately 2.6 miles from one parking lot to the other (5.2 miles round trip), or you can opt for the 5 mile loop that goes through town and back to where you began.
Along the asphalt route there are benches for resting and fitness stations with suggested activities/exercises, as well as periodic interpretive exhibits about the town's history, wildlife and vegetation. But there aren't any restrooms available.
The trail is pet friendly, but you are expected to pick up after your pet- and while "doggy bags" are available at the pet waste stations at each end of the asphalt trail, there aren't trash receptacle along the way.
Be aware that you may encounter wildlife. The trail is quit popular in the spring, summer and fall, but there is no guarantee that you wouldn't encounter snakes, coyotes, gophers, badgers, weasels, antelope, deer, even mountain lions and elk.
Be sure to dress appropriately for the weather (there is very little shade, and very little wind block) and bring enough water. And don't forget your hat, sunglasses, sunscreen and camera!

The Veteran's Memorial Flag and Park is a great stop while passing through Shelby. The park area has amazing iron work forged by local craftsmen. The view of the flag is awesome particularly when the wind is lifting the massive flag.

This is not your usual museum. In what was a residential home, This is walk through the past with millions of artifacts and photos and memorabilia. Not just about Shelby but of history. Two floors of rooms crammed with cool stuff. Even my teenagers we engaged. The gentleman who showed us around was wonderful. They even have a few real dinosaur bones and fossils here! It's free but leave a donation. It's worth your time.

The Shelby Splash Park is FREE, and is open from morning to evening (the indoor pool has specific hours of operation depending on whether you want to play, swim laps or attend a class).
A treadle on the ground activates the water for about 15 minutes. When the water stops, just step on the treadle to get the water going again.
The splash park is enclosed by a chain link fence, and has benches as well as a small playground area. There is also plenty of grass for spreading a beach towel (or your own chair). Food is not available at the splash park or pool, and it's about three blocks to the nearest food stop (it's on US Hwy 2) so bring your own if you plan to stay awhile.

The Carousel Rest Area of Shelby is the brainstorm of a local Shelby resident that is well-known for making things happen in our community. He acquired and restored the carousel, with the help of some local volunteers and plenty of donations along with a considerable amount of his own money.
When it officially opens in the spring of 2018, the building will be available for birthday parties, weddings and other special occasions.

Williamson Park has picnic tables and campsites for tents or campers, as well as charcoal grills and a pavilion type area for large gatherings.
It's a great place to fish or cool off in the river.
Although it is very popular on the weekends, it's usually quiet on weekdays.
It's also a popular end location for tubing down the river, although I'd recommend checking the water level before beginning a trip. Sometimes the water flows rather quickly (such as early in the season or during rainy years) and other times you should plan on having to get out and push the tube/raft (during drought and late in the season).
