Great tour for a cool afternoon. From the farmhouse to the chickens and the cars and the trucks it was a fun time. We also went into the old gas station, funeral home, grocery store. All were full of items they would use in the days of 1920's. It was a great treat and a hidden gem.

Mill Creek Streamway trail runs about 15 miles long north-south from Kansas River to Olathe. The trail is asphalt-paved all the way and winds along the banks of Mill Creek. The scenery is beautiful and the trail is abundant with wild life. One could enjoy the trail just looking for birds. Johnson County Parks has added a number of bluebird houses (about sixty) along the trail to help with Eastern Bluebird population. The trail connects up with various community parks along the way and a few other shorter trails also meet up with Mill Creek Streamway Trail. One lovely connecting trail is Clear Creek Trail (about 3 miles long). Some sections of Mill Creek Streamway trail are pretty steep so that I had to walk my bike. The north end of the trail starts just south of Nelson Island, but the trail on Nelson Island is also connected with Mill Creek Streamway Trail. Do not miss visiting Nelson Island for another mile or so of nature and a view of Kansas River. All in all, Mill Creek Streamway Trail is a very enjoyable recreational trail. The paved trail also carries the name Gary L. Haller Trail in honor.

Servaes Brewing Co. is the first and only Kansas City area brewery owned and operated by a female headbrewer. We produce the highest-quality beer that is fluid and dynamic, flavorful and ever-evolving. We are always trying new things and always reinventing ourselves and our beer. We opened our doors in April 2019. One thing to remember about SBC is that you might not always know what beer we will have on tap. We focus on NEIPAs, novelty, barrel-aged and innovative sour beers. Courtney has been known to add all kinds of interesting things to beers, including whole pumpkin pies, entire boxes of red velvet cake mix, chocolate chip cookies and much more. As Courtney developed her love and passion for brewing beer, her son, Aaron, grew to love craft soda. He and Courtney began brewing soda at home, exploring different styles and ingredients. Aaron's Craft Soda is exactly the kind of soda that Aaron wants to drink. It’s produced in small batches at and is unique and full of flavor.
Servaes Brewing is a delightful new brewery in Shawnee. I stopped here on a Friday evening and the place was quite busy with a large family gathering and other customers. The taproom is very well lighted from natural light coming through the large glass windows in the front. The place is attractively decorated with wonderful pictures of Servaes beers. The space is relatively small but does not seem crowded due to the nice arrangement. The back of the taproom had a shelf with board games; the family party was enjoying some of the games. The seating arrangement includes high chairs, regular chairs, and a sofa lounge. The staff was very helpful with beer suggestions, though I finally went with their flight of four beers. The two New England IPAs and the two Stouts I had were excellent. The Great White Stout was superb. No food is served, though they had a stash of snacks available for sale, and one could order food to be brought in. Servaes says they do not have flagship beers; indeed their goal is to produce 100 beers before the end of the year (their tracking board says they were up to 67 when I visited on July 26). The prices are very reasonable. They do not fill growlers, but 4-packs are available to go. Street parking space is limited; the side parking lot is restricted to the adjacent restaurant, but ample parking is available in the back of the brewery. Servaes Brewing is a wonderful brewery, which I will certainly visit again and again.

Pathlight offers some of the best beer you'll find in KC. They also have a great tasting room that includes an outdoor patio. The beer is brewed on-site and you can see all the tanks and barrels and whatnot where the beer is made. You can sample their offerings on-tap or take them to-go as well.

Pioneer Crossing Park in Shawnee is a small historical park with life size 3-D stone and bronze monument of a pioneer wagon and pioneers near Santa Fe Trail crossing point. The town has made excellent use of a bluff area next to Turkey Creek. The park is very well maintained with beautiful landscaping. Walking from the parking lot, you go through a semi-circular quadrangle with information boards of the various trails crossing the area and about a few historical figures from that era. Then you come to the main attraction which is the beautiful monument of a wagon traveling the trails. Then the east end of the park has a set of steep stairs that leads to a playground at the top of the bluff. The whole visit could be leisurely enjoyed in less than an hour. Pioneer Crossing Park is a worthwhile stop for some pioneer history and to see a lovely monument.
