This is a very large county fair with many foods available along with agricultural and craft exhibits, and a large carnival. It is probably triple the size of most county fairs. You will truly enjoy it. Something for everyone. I sure hope they rebuild the covered grandstand, that was taken down a couple years ago.

Landmark house designed by architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe that is open to the public.
We took the Chicago Architect Foundation tour of the Farnsworth House. The tour included a comfortable bus ride from the CAF Tour Center on Michigan Avenue in Chicago. The CAF docent provided an overview on the bus - plus we watched Mies DVDs there and back. The house was gorgeous. Couple things to bring along: socks (required to enter the home) and bug spray.

The new owners have made this theater a real showcase. (pun intended). The new reclining seats are a real treat, and the cleanliness of the entire theater and the restrooms is fantastic. The employees are friendly, and the free refills are wonderful, especially when you take the whole family or grandchildren. They have had $1 movies all summer for the kids with mascots, games, etc. before the show. They have special rates on Tuesdays, and every day for Seniors. The new theater is a real blessing for our community.

Established in 2016, The Brick Lounge is the premier entertainment venue in the West Suburbs. The Brick Lounge is approximately 9000 square feet of concert, bar, event space, with the best sound system in the area. Built circa 1858, our esthetic is unique and full of history. We take pride in our high customer satisfaction and are constantly making improvements based on your suggestions.
We love coming to The Brick Lounge! We always have a nice time here. It's a fun, casual environment that offers something for everyone. They have comedy show nights, live bands, host events, etc. Tickets for shows are very affordable and the prices at the bar too! There's causal dining like pizza, wings, mozzarella sticks. They also have slot machines, darts, pool table, etc. The place is pretty big and spread out, which is nice. Very unique set up. We will definitely keep coming back!

On August 20, 1878, 25 years after Sandwich first became a town, a contract was signed for construction of the Sandwich City Hall and Opera House. An allotment of $10,000 was given for the project. Fast forward 108 years. After much time, money and energy by volunteers to restore and renovate the City Hall and the Opera House, a grand re-opening was held on April 12, 1986. Once again the building functions as a community oriented facility, bringing community theater, lectures, recitals, style shows, weddings and a wide variety of outstanding performers, ranging from country to classical, to its stage.
We went to see a community theater play. The building itself is quite interesting. It is a small theater and we sat in the front row of the balcony and very much enjoyed our evening. Went once before and got stuck behind a pole on the main floor. The enterainment was good community theater ... not great, but certainly an enjoyable evening.

Driving into Plano, I noticed a railroad arch with the rock creek running under it and thought that would be a nice place to go. Stopped in a nearby gas station and ask what I just seen. She told me it was Klatt Field. A small field/park that has a shallow creek with a backdrop of an railroad arch. Thought I check it out and glad I did. Once in downtown Plano, take Main St east straight to it. This place is a hidden gem in Plano. The water surely is not good enough to go fishing in but the rocks that surrond the river are great to climb on and take nice scenic pics.

This past Saturday night (July 15), my wife and I joined 10 family members for a few hours at Idle Hour. After a melancholy day of saying goodbye to a dear relative, someone had the brilliant idea of bonding over bowling --- so we headed a town over (we were in Somonauk) to this 70-year-old gem.
It's got a great "small town" feel; my cousins bowled here for PE class in high school and my dad joined his first league here in the 1950s! The building isn't much to look at from outside - a plain brick box with a small sign and some Budweiser advertising. As I understand, the lanes were recently purchased by new owners and are in the process of being refurbished; they're resurfacing long-neglected lanes and adding modern touches added like huge HDTVs above the pins (showing the Cubs, Sox and ESPN on this night), booming sound systems and modern scoring with animated graphics. Still, there are throwback touches like open ball returns, divey-looking lounges and a men's room with hand-written signage about inappropriate chew-spitting.
We were at the far right end (lanes 7-10) and were among the first people bowling (at around 8pm on a Saturday); eventually most of the other six lanes filled.
I hadn't rolled a ball in several years and was pretty lousy, but so were many others...the point was to have a great time and that we did! Games were reasonably priced: $4 each, including shoe rentals. We bowled 4 games each and everyone enjoyed drinks from the bar; beers for most, a huge "double" whiskey for my wife and delicious draft root beer from Sprecher for me. Our drink tab was an absolute bargain, barely $15.
Overall we spent about $60, which included big tips for the nice guys running the place. For that paltry amount, we bought laugh-filled memories with family that will last a lifetime. Cheers, Idle Hour Lanes, and bless you, Aunt Ula, the lady who brought us all together... you were the ✨sparkle✨ in all of our lives and you will be greatly missed!

I was able to track down a family item purchased by Thriftique. They let me purchase the item over the phone, and saved it for me until I could arrange the shipping to another state. They communicated with me and with my shipping agent, and even arranged a fabulous deal on the price, which helped me offset the shipping price a bit.
I urge everyone in the area to shop here; they are helpful, kind, and offer incredible customer service.
