We took a taxi from the Malecon to the vista point above La Choclatera and after getting some sweet pictures we had him drive us down and out to the point where this site is. We had to pass through the Military gate to get out there, no big deal there though. The land is flat and mostly barren being on the volcanic rock from who knows when. The name comes from the color of the volcanic rocks, has nothing to do with chocolate. This vistas from the point are awesome. There's a snack bar that serves food and beverages, and a bathroom building, which is great since there is nothing else out there. We took the hike of about 40 minutes to La Loberia, the first part is sand but about half way (there are covered areas with water fountains along the way) it turns to a brick path. This has only been available in the past 10 years.

Ben Haase has created a wonderful, interesting, educational and informative museum on his property. He is passionate and knowledgeable and it shows in his tour. This is a must see while in Salinas for the entire family. It's a very affordable $3.00 per person and you can help the museum by giving a bit more as a donation. Highly recommended. We were not able to try his wife's seafood restaurant as it was not open this particular weekend, but it came highly recommended by our hotel.

Salinas Malecon has many wonderful restaurants, vendors offering anything from food and beer to seating and umbrellas. There are vendors offering scenic boat trips, wave runners, kayak and paddle board rentals to name a few. It is a full service entertainment area.

Salinas is a very accommodating little town on the beach in Ecuador. We are lucky enough to have friends who live there and they brought us to a secluded beach to watch the sunset.

Would highly recommend taking a trip to this beach! Most homes are nestled, overlooking this beach. Beach was empty when we arrived. It is stunning!

Ecuador is always a pleasure. Salinas is beautiful sleepy little sea side town. Baños de San Vincente is located about 30 miles away. Great mud baths, natural hot spring and great messages.
