Awesome microbrewery right off 35. The building is a restored grain mill with the original ship lap and a modern garage door spiffs up the design. The beers were unique and tasty. There's picnic tables set up inside and out on the patio. Cornhole is available on request. We were there on a Sunday afternoon, but it looks like there food trucks every Friday and Saturday and music on Thursday's. The bartenders was knowledgeable and friendly. We will definitely be back.

Salado Winery & Salado Wine Seller

Salado Winery Company is a delightful little family owned wine creating business located in the Village of Salado, Texas. Started in 2005 by June Ritterbusch, the winemaker, winerymom and winerybosslady is usually in charge, but sometimes her husband, little boy, and #winerycat have their turn too. Together they produce wine from the grapes they grew in their own vineyard located south of Salado, and also vineyards throughout Bell County. Their labels feature Texas animals and they are especially known for their unoaked chardonnay named "Night Flight". Stop by for a tasting, 5 tastes $5

Salado Winery reminds me of the small boutique wineries that have cropped up in Northern California over the past decade. Winemaker Sheldon has an impressive breadth of knowledge - not only of winemaking operations but also of global wine varieties, blends and regions. He was patient and enthusiastic in providing me a tour of the winery and explaining the impact of weather on a particular vintage, or the use of oak on a particular varietal. The tasting room is very nice - great decor, a sizable display of their own wines and a very friendly pourer. The wines are on a par with many wines produced in the fast-growing Texas Hill Country AVA, and I found the Tempranillo to be excellent. While I do most of my winery visits in Northern California, I had a great visit here, really enjoyed the wine and will definitely be back!

We had a wonderful time on the trails. The scenery is gorgeous, and the falls are not deep, so you can wade in the crystal clear water and climb on the rocks.

Magnolia's on the Square

This is a mini-mall with many unusual items for sale.

This store is a dream come true and may well be the finest gift shop I have ever visited. Everything is beautiful and elegantly displayed.

My wife and I looked through multitudes of fall and Christmas decorations, candles, fragrance selections and stunning home décor items, marveling all the while at the beauty of this store.

We ended up purchasing several stems of artificial flowers and cotton ball stems for our den, a beautiful artificial orchid plant in a vase, and a tall gold artificial Christmas tree to put on top of an antique chest we had earlier purchased at the Round Top Antique Market.

Don't miss Magnolia's On the Square. It is a class act to be sure.

Salado College Hill Park

Reviewed By P5_Crazy_Train - G-Patch, Texas

Salado's historic College Hill Park is a nice little park that has a significant amount of history to the town and its people. The ruins of the old school are really neat to see and appear to have been stabilized to keep them from deteriorating any further. The signs around the park give a good history of the site so that you know what was there and how the property was used.

But it seems a little neglected or in progress somehow with waterhoses out and about (it is summer, to be fair). The restoration that stabilizes the structures looks a little harsh and the giant "do not climb on the ruins" signs everywhere make it look like a construction zone. And I felt like we were being jerks by parking in the shops' parking spots because we weren't sure where to park.

We really loved Salado and hate how the highway construction seems to be effecting the town. Hopefully the construction will finish soon and the town will bounce back.

Fletchers Books & Antiques

Reviewed By JJ J - Georgetown, Texas

This is an old family business that's very laid-back. The shop is stuffed with unusual antiques from Texas and Europe. Furniture, mirrors, Christian pieces, stained glass, pianos, books, old magazines, music and so much more. No pressure sales. Tyler is an expert in antiques with training in France. We found a beautiful Victorian peer mirror for our hallway. I have also found old books for treasured gifts there. Behind the store is a church and law office. Out front are architectural pieces. Worth a visit!

The owners are more than accommodating and friendly! The winery is a place where you can chill with a glass of wine while you enjoy live music (well, there was live music the day we visited). It's a great place to go for a first date or hang out with a group of friends.
