Hawn State Park

Hawn State Park is one of the loveliest parks in a system full of lovely parks. Clear, sand-bottomed streams, wild areas ripe with orchids and awe-inspiring views combine to make Hawn a place that Missourians treasure. Geology buffs love Pickle Creek for the number of exposed rock types. Hikers frequent the Whispering Pine Wild Area for its quiet trails with expansive views. Bird watchers flock to the park for its variety of birds. And there are plenty of quiet spaces for people to get away and enjoy the outdoors.

Hawn State Park is always a favorite. The park is beautiful with great hiking trails.
The campground is nicely laid out. The sites are fairly spacious. The showers are clean. The vault toilet is just okay.
I have been camping at Hawn for several years. I have camped with my husband and with a group of friends.
My only concern is about the permanent host. At times he acts as though he owns the campground. The first time I met him, he was very friendly and laid back. Now, a few years later, he has a much different attitude. Quiet time is 10:00 pm which is fair. He came by our communal campfire at 9:30, to tell my friends and me to be quiet. He added: "don't make me come back". He acted like he was a parent warning his children. Totally not necessary.

Ste. Genevieve Welcome Center

Ste. Genevieve's downtown area National Historic Landmark District offers visitors a rare glimpse into a French colonial past. Mixed in with the historic homes and attractions are great restaurants, quaint shops, a candy store, ice cream parlor and winery. Narrow streets and fenced gardens surround some of the most significant 18th Century architecture in America.

This center has maps and brochures of the many attractions in town : especially about the many 1700s- era buildings. It has public washrooms. It has lists of local wineries. It has recommended walking tours. All in all, this is the first place to stop.

Felix Valle House State Historic Site

Travel back to Missouri’s early French roots at Felix Vallé House State Historic Site. The American-Federal style Valle house was built in 1818 and today is furnished in the style of the 1830s with a host of artifacts that show the American influence on the French community of Ste. Genevieve after the Louisiana Purchase. The Bauvais-Amoureux House, built in 1792, is one of several other historic homes in the site, nestled within historic Ste. Genevieve.

Aptly named, this winery is located next to the Ste. Genevieve water tower.
Property is a farm that has been in the wife's family for years.
Staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and pleasant.
As you sit on the back patio you are overlooking farm pastures. Lovely. Serene.
Quieting.

They were preparing their barn out back for a concert that evening.
I need to return sometime to hear music.

Killer homemade Sangria, old family recipe... best I've ever tasted.

Good wines which matched perfectly with their platter of cheeses, olives, & local sausage -- all delicious.

Of the 113 MO wineries I've visited so far, this one rated as 1 of only 5 that I could have bought a bottle of everyone of their wines.

Looking forward to my next visit... in the near future.

We stayed at the Brew House/Moonshine House right next to the Brewery-Distillery. It was very convenient to just walk a short distance to the Brewery.

There is a wide variety of things to drink for those non-wine drinkers at the Brewery. The inside bar is very large. You can purchase merchandise inside. The outside has a huge patio seating area with a large fire pit overlooking the countryside. You have to go inside to get your drinks and food. The day they we were there they had hotel lounge type music on the patio. The weather was beautiful.

It was fun to try new drinks and share with friends.

We went here to celebrate my birthday. The scenery was beautiful and the weather was perfect that day. So there was much to enjoy. We had a bottle of their Cabernet. We drank in the shade of the patio in their facility and enjoyed the weather and view. I would have to say that the 3 buck chuck at Traders is far better and a lot cheaper. We realize that we are paying for the wonderful view. We also wanted a wine and cheese board but they were sold out. The kitchen had very little to offer on a Sunday afternoon about 1:30??? Another note we were not given glasses for the wine. They even wanted to charge us for the small plastic cups that had their logo on them. It's plastic!!

I'm not a huge wine fan, but I tried all of their beers. Very impressive!

Their coffee stout wasn't only the best of the beers we tried, it's the best coffee beer I've ever tried.

They also had a huge cheese and sausage plate. A must try!!
