My husband and I were greatly impressed by the staff knowledge. Self guided tour was wonderful giving us time to explore the property and consider the lives of the USLSS a century ago.

Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge is located on the north end of Hatteras Island just south of the Basnight bridge. The refuge supports migratory birds and endangered species. A couple short trails from the visitor center provide great birding opportunities along the man-made ponds, especially in the winter. A two-story observation tower provides great views over the island. Note dogs are not allowed on the west side of NC-12, but are allowed on the beach east of the highway.

Rodanthe Pier

Reviewed By neltac

After watching the movie "Nights in Rodanthe" several of my girlfriends and I decided we had to go and stay in the house. We stayed for 7 nights and it was magical. There is a hot tub on the deck and the house is still ocean front. My bed room was on the second floor with my bed facing the French doors to the deck that overlooks the ocean. I would set my alarm every morning for the sunrise and just have to sit up in bed to watch it come up over the ocean. If no sunrise, just lay back down and go back to sleep. My bedroom also had a private bath off of it in the tower part of the house. The house is wonderful and charming. The pier was fun to visit and I just walked out and took pictures. Parking was a little difficult at the pier, but it is walking distance from the house. The light houses and the wild horses were neat to visit. If you take the four wheel drive tour to see the horses, dress warm. The ride is cold and breezy, to say the least.
