Bridgeton Covered Bridge

This 245-foot bridge is probably the most-photographed covered bridge in the Midwest.

A lovely spot next to the old mill in Bridgeton with water cascading down beside it. I was a little disappointed to discover that it was built in 2006 and never actually used unlike many of the other old covered bridges in the area.

Turkey Run State Park

Reviewed By Porthos7 - West Chester, Ohio

I'm a weekend State Park "traveler", and I'd need a week to do/see everything that is available in this park. The usual state park activities are there, cabins, an "inn" with "inn-side" programs, as well as a great little nature center/planetarium, but the most spectacular part of the park to me are the bald eagles. I can't stress enough how amazing these raptors are, if you've never seen them in the wild, you need to! We ran to Arron (extremely knowledgeable and SUPER cool DNR ranger) to show him our pics/video of the Eagle we spotted, and he informed us that they are there daily! Went to an owl program - then headed outside at night (with Arron-the man who doesn't sleep) where we "called" a number of owls, which was also amazing. Finished the weekend with an Eagles in Flight program - and it's true to its name - saw 150+ Eagles first morning, then 90+ second (they take you to a nesting area). The sight was spectacular! (Also had a "wounded" Eagle that they were taking care of that they did a program with. Mesmerizing creature, 10 ft away from you! Can't say enough about the park and it's rangers - just a great place with knowledgeable staff who love the earth and love to share their expertise with you! Final note: weekend's are VERY busy during the summer, just fyi.

My husband and I decided to take in a few days of the Covered Bridge Festival happening in Rockville, and took our RV to the campground at this state park. What a beautiful place! Grounds are meticulously kept, and the campground was beautiful with an abundance of trees all starting their autumn color splendor! The staff at the gate were very helpful. The DNR staff kept a constant presence making sure that everyone was obeying campground rules and tending to keep the area clean. Friendly people, beautiful location. We were only minutes away from the various Covered Bridge festivities in the "many small towns". I would highly recommend this location any time of the year!

Neet bridge has been well maintained but is now closed to through-traffic. You can walk up to the bridge and visit it though. It is a classical bridge of Parke County and has nothing outstanding - simply nice to visit if you are interested in seeing several of the bridges.

Reviewed By NewlyRetiredTeacher - Connersville, Indiana

The Narrows Covered Bridge is at the edge of Turkey Run State Park and spans Sugar Creek. It is easily available to walk through, but the road now crosses on a modern concrete bridge for safety of both motorists and the historic bridge. Beautiful views of the woods and the creek from this location.

Drunk Tank Winery

Reviewed By jlcarter1975 - Metropolis, Illinois

My husband and I stopped in for a wine tasting after checking in for the weekend at the Old Jail Inn (the winery is in the basement of the inn). While Trina was showing us around the inn another couple arrived for a wine tasting as well. She acknowledged them as repeat offenders. The tasting is $8 and includes a stemless glass that you get to keep. Several different wines were offered and the winery has one wine which has been labeled for them. Trina is hilarious and entertaining. She treated us with a witty disrespect that keeps you begging for more and more. You can also sign your name somewhere on the wall or ceiling of the place. Many people have left their mark at the winery.

Recently had the opportunity to visit this antique/gift shop, located on the square in Rockville. Good place to buy homemade candy and local souvenirs.
The true treasure that we came upon was getting to meet 92 year old Iwo Jima survivor, Retired Marine Cpl. Leighton Willhite.
Such an honor to get to meet & talk with him. His daughter works in the shop (don't know if she is Neva) & was there visiting with customers as they came in. It was the highlight of our day!!

McAllister Covered Bridge

Reviewed By saltacity - Weinheim, Germany

The bridges in Parke County are quite similar. McAllister is one of the well matained and nicer ones. You can actually drive through it and it is slightly elevated. Other than that it is one of the many bridges - if you want to see several of the bridges, you should definitely put this one also on your list!
