Barkly Gardens were opened in 1867, making it one of the earliest gardens in Melbourne -- it is the only residential garden square in Richmond, although they are not uncommon in London, England. The gardens are quiet and elegant and amazingly they are only a few hundred yards (meters) from busy Swan St. Dogs are welcome, on-leash and off-leash. The BBQs are popular with families, as is the newly-renovated playground area. Barkly Gardens are a blessing in this heavily built-up area, and are a marvelous resource for strollers and families.

The Burnley Gardens are on the southern side of Swan Street. The are managed by the University of Melbourne but are open to the public. The Gardens were gazetted in 1860 and establishment began in 1861. So, some the trees are very old. They are a teaching garden, so you'll find many of the trees are labelled with their botanical names. Please respect the gardens, don't take any plant material and keep your dog on a leash. You can join the Friends of Burnley Gardens for a small fee and enjoy monthly lectures and workshops.. There are regular plant sales when it's COVID allowed. Please note that the nearest toilets are in the car park at Leonda (over the river) or the Kevin Bartlett Sports Reserve.

The biggest cricketing battle of the summer starts on Boxing Day, when Australia traditionally takes on the overseas visitors at the MCG.. For a batsman, facing an express pace bowler hurling a cricket ball at over 100 miles per hour (145 kms/hr) takes some courage. This year, the opponents are Black Caps (New Zealand). No-one doubts their courage, but on the bumpy Australian wickets, they may not quite have tthe right technique. For Australian cricketers, wearing the Baggy Green cap is the highest honour. Australia is on the comeback trail after a rough patch, it's bad luck that the Black Caps that they have caught the Aussies at their best. See a game at the MCG if you can, there's still viewing space to be had.

Brogan's Way is a boutique gin distillery proudly led by Brogan herself and celebrates gin making using unique Australian botanicals. A great place to visit that is very close to Melbourne CBD and accessible by tram and public transport. Discover our spirited sensations! Tasting Flights, superb classic cocktails, tours and masterclasses.
We had a nice time at this suburban Melbourne gin distillery, even with COVID restrictions. Staff were exceedingly pleasant. The menu of gins, mixers, mixtures and cocktails was quite mind boggling - who knew there could be such variety!?!? We each had a gin and something and then a gin cocktail. The cocktails were particularly stunning. Quite expensive but it is special.

Any Melburnian will tell you that Victoria Street is the prime place to go for good Vietnamese food plus a range of other Asian cuisines. It's a fairly gritty street but it rarely disappoints in my experience. There are some fantastic and generally very reasonably priced restaurants on this strip. In addition, there's lots of life and colour here. An iconic area.

Came here quite a few times - lots of shops selling furniture and household stuff such as Ikea, Adair’s, Bed Bath and table, etc. There is also a Kmart that sells many different types of items including clothes, household wares and children’s toys. Coles supermarket is also located here. Coles and Kmart close late everyday and is so convenient. Just a short 20 minutes drive from Melbourne CBD area and very close by Richmond if you fancy some authentic Vietnamese food.
