I hardly knew I was out of the states when I visited. Very modern, aesthetic, clean. Some Brazilian flavor to the restaurants and food court. Shops are almost exclusively fashion, with the addition of a grocery store, a Best Buy-type store, movie theater, and some electronics stores. Currency exchange available limited hours. Strong mall cop presence. Easy parking. Prices not so different from States. Two levels of stores, opens 2 pm on Sunday, except restaurants are open earlier. Bathrooms available. Most shopkeepers do not speak English. Other than that, no local flavor.

I spent way too much time here and around the Cathedral. Inside is definitely European influences throughout the artwork, architecture, and other things.

Sete Capelas is a surprisingly nice retreat from the urban landscape of Ribeirão Preto. When you are there you just forget that it is a very small tract of land trapped between busy roads and a hill, Morro de S. Bento. Once you cross the gate you can park your car and enjoy the space. There is not much to see: a ring of trees isolated the site from external noise and surrounds a central plaza around which seven chapels were built, each different in style and size. It's a peaceful location that you can enjoy in many ways, either immersing in the spiritual ambiance or just wandering around. There is some renovation work going on with little care about organization but it did not have a significant impact on the view.
What I think is that the place could have any name except Sete Capelas (Seven Chapels): its is quite a common place that has a single peculiarity that gives it its charm: the fact that there are 7 chapels there. In movies, we would call the name of the place a "spoiler": it gives away the main surprise before you get to the place.
Anyway it is worth visiting.

Three buildings facing a large square where the starting point of the town ("marco zero") is located make up the Quarteirão Paulista, which seems to be the pride of the local people. The buildings have been carefully renovated and look quite nice and even somewhat imponent, and the most famous draft beer in Brazil is served in the Pinguim, a bar that has become a legend for its ice-cold "chopp". The square seems to have been abandoned at some stage as signs of decay can be seen, specially in the benches.
Not the nicest place in Ribeirão Preto, but a visit there is an essential part of getting to know the town.

this is a nice place for working out outdoors, but be prepared to deal with crazy kids running around on weekends

This place is amazing. Just walk around, and you will be amazed with the view of the city, plus theres a small lake with fish, turtles. I would say its the best thing to do in ribeirao preto. Save at least 1 hour for walking there.

We had a lot of fun with the little ones. Older children may not enjoy for it is a small park and the rides lack adrenaline. For children up to 8 or 9 years old it was a blast. Prices were good, about £15 for each child to stay as long as they wanted (until park closes) and go as many times as they wanted.

Really so pretty and relaxing and if you walk down to the bottom theres a nice view of the whole city.
