Kerry Wood Nature Centre

Sitting adjacent to the 300 acre Gaetz Lakes Sanctuary, the Kerry Wood Nature Centre is the gateway to Waskasoo Park. Enjoy 5 kilometers of walking /snowshoeing trails in the Sanctuary or set out on an urban nature adventure through Waskasoo Park. The nature centre has interactive exhibits, a Discovery room, gift shop, and The Imagination Grove and Harmony Garden; a nature-based outdoor playspace and Alberta's first fully-accessible music park.

When we visit Red Deer, I often bring my girls here to play at the musical garden. Today we also went for a stroll behind the building. The lookout beside the lake provided stunning views. The hiking trail is well paved and the wooden lookout/boardwalk is probably one of the best ones I have seen in Alberta. New, clean, safe for toddlers to explore on their own (wont fall into water) and yet they made lots of windows for you to see the lake. My girls spent a long time there. To get to the said lookout, you go behind the building to the storybook loop. You go counter clockwise (so you enter the loop on your right), about 3 min in you will see the path to this lookout on your right.

Bower Ponds

Bower Ponds is a must visit for anybody in Red Deer. You can rent pedal boats in the summer and ice skate in the winter. It is a beautiful spot with paved trails for walking and has a huge playground with rubber footing for kids to play. There is an indoor pavilion with washrooms and a concession. This is not always open so check times before you go. It also has an outdoor stage and hosts numerous concerts during the summer months. I find it the most beautiful in the fall. It is also situated next the river with easy access via bike or walking trail. Dogs are welcome on leash. Be cautious of the Canada Geese in the spring and keep your distance. Always so cute to see the goslings.

This spot has the best all around experience in town. It's got a variety of unique entertainment and food thats second to none . It's a beautiful place to enjoy the walking trails , if you love horses, there'll be plenty of gorgeous ones along the way . I like to local relaxing atmosphere, nice to see a business supporting other local businesses . Great sense of community and friendly staff . The Westlake Grill is an excellent restaurant, such a nice evening there , delicious food , wonderful servers. They have some nice wines that I've enjoyed . Love the garden fresh vegetables . Kids enjoy eating there too . The winter night lights are gorgeous and the sleigh rides are defiantly one of my favourite activities there. The country setting is refreshing in the city. Great place for solo /guests/kids/dates. Highly recommend , great go to , real treat in town . Love the pies and thanksgiving dinner too . Thanks everyone .
