Siena's main square is the site of the famous Palio horse races that take place in July and August.
The vast bustling Piazza del Campo in Siena is famous for the Palio horse races which attract thousands of visitors each year and must be a truly awesome spectacle. This is a most interesting city to explore for the spiders-web of streets that circumnavigate the Piazza lead to quite unexpected places, shops, churches and beautiful vistas. A photographers dream where sunlight and shadow enhances the beauty of the architecture at all times throughout the day. Siena is a must, and don’t cut your visit short for there’s much to see and do.

The magnificent complex of the Cathedral of Siena, its Duomo, houses a series of some of the most important monuments of the European artistic panorama. With its more than one million visitors every year, the Cathedral without a doubt represents the fulcrum of the entire complex, while other significant elements include the Crypt, the Baptistery and the Museo dell'Opera, all part of the impressive mass formed by the "Duomo Vecchio" (Old Cathedral), and the "Duomo Nuovo" (New Cathedral). Visitors will travel along a memorable itinerary to the discovery of self and the truth of faith through culture and art, the result of more than a millennium of Western history.
We walked over to the ticket office to get the tickets for the Duomo, museum, Baptistry and Crypt, and we were blown away with our tour guides! We have seen all the major churches and Cathedrals in Italy, and many of the lesser-knowns, too, and nothing comes anywhere close to this one! Each has it's own unique style, but this one was the most memorable for me! The interior tour was brilliantly executed and our tour guides made us feel like private guests getting a unique inside tour! I could go back every day and see something new! They cover different parts of the floor at different times, so one would need to go at different times to see it all.

We were so well taken care of by Fausto and Rikkaa. This is a family owned vineyard that makes some incredible wines. We had a great stay here for 2 nights and wished we had booked longer. Fausto helped us with everything from making reservations to recommending masseuses and restaurants. Rikkaa is very well versed sommelier who gave us great winery recommendations as well. However, with all the wines we tried in the region, we liked Guardastelle's wine the best and already bought 6 bottles shipped home!

Though it was time of corona, in between waves, the winery was open for pre-booked visits. The winery us stunning and situates in a beautiful surroundings. Marco, my host, was wonderful, patient and professional and did his utmost to make me feel at home as well as protected and safe. Wines are extraordinary and the story behind the winery and winemaker is awesome.

Really great! We’ve done this twice with different small groups of our friends. The grounds are beautiful and the English tours are very informative and interesting. We started in the morning with a cooking class. In this hands-on class, we made Tiramisu, Pici Pasta, and a roasted chicken dish that was started by being wrapped in Saran Wrap. All were delicious. Lunch was fabulous and being able to taste the wines we just learned about was well done. They have a nice gift shop with a good selection of wines. They ship, so of course we bought the Vin Santo! A must do when near Montepulciano!

What I can say is that if you are visiting Val d'orcia and you know what you can expect, this church with its beauty, its Renaissance architecture, its harmony and its harmonious insertion into the landscape represents the Val d'Orcia at its best.

When approaching the town of Montepulciano, can see lots and lots of wine related proposals: tastings and visits. Is all about the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. We visited the other wine cellar (by the Big Square, Piazza Grande) it was OK but a little further we came across with this surprise. We entered through this building (Palazzo Ricci) unimaginable that through an “equestrian” staircase (wonder if in the old times they used horses to transport wine barrels up and down!) we would tour an underground world of tunnels, Etruscan caves, water wells, aisles and naves, an underground cathedral of wine!. Free entry, English spoken, tasting if interested, a must do when in Montepulciano.

Really impressed, completely FREE wine caves to explore. Very interesting to see how the wine is made, with some information boards about. We were expecting a tourist trap with this situated on the main street, but that it was not. After the caves, we did some wine tasting, getting to try four different reds, though we probably could have tried more if we wanted. We had only set out to buy one bottle, and we did not feel pressured to purchase huge quantities or anything like that. We loved the bottle we purchased and left very happy!

Visiting the historic center is a must - it will take you back in time and you will feel the authenticity of this beautiful town. The view is picturesque and the towers are magnificent. Pizza in one of the small restaurants and ice cream at the plaza will make your day very special! There are many shops where you can buy souvenirs, leather, delicious pastry and unique coffee.
