The fortress "Markovi Kuli" in Prilep or "Markukule", a symbol of the city, is a remnant of a medieval city. It was named after the last king, the most famous and sung in folk epic King Marko, who ruled until 1395. The site dates back to the early antique settlement Keramija, which is evidenced by numerous findings, as well as rock drawings dating from the 7th century BC. With their dominant defense system, it makes them unique in the Balkans. The fortress is located on a 120 to 180 meter hill of volcanic origin which abounds in many unusual rocks that by their shape got their name from the inhabitants. On April 10, 2006, "Markovi Kuli" was declared a Monument of Nature.

I fell in love with this place! We hiked from Prilep to Treskavec monastery, it took us about an hour and a half. The path was so colorful because it was early autumn. We arrived to the monastery just to see the sunset. It was overwhelming! We spent the night there, for free, in the morning we took a tour of the monastery and the church, took a walk around and then went back to Prilep. For me, it is the most mesmerizing place in Macedonia. If you go there, you won't be sorry! :)
