Port Moresby (/ˌpɔːrt ˈmɔːrzbi/; Tok Pisin: Pot Mosbi), also referred to as Pom City or simply Moresby, is the capital and largest city of Papua New Guinea and the largest city in the South Pacific outside of Australia and New Zealand. It is located on the shores of the Gulf of Papua, on the south-western coast of the Papuan Peninsula of the island of New Guinea. The city emerged as a trade centre in the second half of the 19th century. During World War II it was a prime objective for conquest by the Imperial Japanese forces during 1942–43 as a staging point and air base to cut off Australia from Southeast Asia and the Americas.

If you're early enough, you'll catch the incredible morning mist hovering over this natural mountain region that offers fantastic views and a wealth of birds and other wildlife.
Wonderful piece of nature. Great viewing point at the end of the road in. Super for birdwatching. The local population go there to barbecue so not quiet all the time but still won't affect the experience. If you are going to PNG then try to take this in and enjoy the stunning scenery.

Port Moresby Nature Park is PNG's leading and international award-winning wildlife Park combining botanical, zoological and cultural experiences within its 30 acres. The park is home to over 550+ native animals including bird of paradise, tree-kangaroos, cassowaries, wallabies, reptiles and many, many parrot and other bird species. The grounds also offer a lush change from the hustle and bustle of Port Moresby City with the only rainforest tract within the Capital City. Facilities include cafe, souvenir shop and arguably PNG's best outdoors children's playground. The Nature Park can arrange transportation to/from hotels and airport and offers excellent guided tours of the Park (lasting 1.5hrs). The Park is PNG's only internationally welfare accredited wildlife park and is a member of the Zoo & Aquarium Association of Australasia.
The only park/forest type recreational facility within the city limits, the former botanical gardens offer rain forest, picknick areas as well as wildlife that has mostly been rescued, such as tree kangaroos and other endemic animals and birds. There are efforts underway to breed the endangered pig-nosed turtle. Some have already been released back into their natural habitats. A must visit if you pass through Port Moresby.

A beautiful area to walk and soak up the serenity of the place. If you are a fan of war cemeteries and especially of Australian war dead, this is the place to visit . Again as it is located outside Port Moresby, it is highly recommend to ensure you travel with a reputable tour group or have security escort with you. Unfortunately Port Moresby is not safe to travel by yourself.

The landscape south of Sogeri is dominated by Lake Sirinumu, a huge water reservoir created by the damming of the Upper Laloki River in 1963 and flooding the surrounding land. Water from the reservoir is piped down Rouna Gorge to run a hydro-electric plant and also to supply town water for Port Moresby city. Activities at the lake include boating, fishing, water sports, bird watching and hiking.

The blend of old and new is strikingly exemplified in the Parliament House, which combines modern architecture with ancient design.
Apart from the Parliament with its lovely PNG art and carvings, the grounds are worth a walk around too. Ponds and sculptures are spread out and are nice to see. Also take note of the impressive art work at the entrance As to getting there highly recommend a tour as doing it independently is risky. This area unfortunately is not safe due to the high rate of crime.

Located on the slopes of Independence Hill, this traditionally designed museum houses an excellent collection of New Guinea art and cultural artifacts.
Impressive collection from all over PNG. Well displayed and cared-for artefacts, excellent display space, great to see PNG staff have laid out some of the display presentations and written the display interpretations. Apparently locally-cooked dishes have been so popular that they are now being sold Mon-Wed lunches! Set on beautiful grounds that is good to see being used for occasional events. When things are more COVID-safe, it would be great to see more of this with COVID measures. It would be good to see the museum opened for even half a day every weekend so that more people can enjoy the collection more easily. It would be super cool to have an artist in residence space and partnerships with other regional museums to enable a couple of rotating exhibitions each year so that PNG can enjoy more things from around the neighbourhood.

Whilst a little way out of Port Moresby it is worth the trip to this Park. Entry to the main park is free and this allows you to walk the extensive grounds and view the numerous animal enclosures. For just a few Kina you can visit the magnificent Orchid Gardens (outstanding) and the exotic birds enclosure. If you have kids there is also a water slide, play area and Ferris wheel. A great attraction

Not huge, maybe somewhat basic, but great to have available and to feel secure while shopping. The RH Hypermarket anchors the place. It was fun to walk along both sides of each floor and window-shop too, and there is a nice little crafts kiosk at one end of one floor. A post office on the second floor is convenient. Now as others have suggested, this is not on the scale of SM Mega Mall or Festival Walk or Pacific Place. It's a mall for POM residents who have a bit of time, or cash, or both. They were making an obvious effort to keep the area clean and it was interesting to watch an army of cleaners fanning the floor to dry it. If I had more time during my own visit, I would have wanted to try more of the restaurants. It's attached to Hotel Stanley, so convenient for hotel guests who understandably fear leaving hotel grounds. This was a huge "plus" for me. Note for foreign visitors: browse through the Hypermarket, compare prices and points of origin of the products. A real eye-opener.
