It is named after its capital Plzeň (English, German: Pilsen). In terms of area, Plzeň region is 7,561 km², the third largest region in the Czech Republic. Every country has its symbols and legends and the Czech ones include Pilsner Urquell lager which has been brewed in a town called Plzen (Pilsen) since 1842. Since then the fame of Pilsner Urquell beer has spread around the world and, inspired by this exceptional brew, more than two-thirds of the beers produced today are commonly known as pils, pilsner or pilsener. The brewery tour showcases all of the authentic places where Pilsner Urquell lager has been brewed for more than 175 years, and where its story continues today. You will see the heart of the brewery - both the historical and contemporary brewhouse. You will smell and taste the raw materials that are used to brew Pilsner Urquell, and the panoramic cinema will take you through the brewing process. And at the end you will taste unfiltered Pilsner Urquell beer tapped straight from oak lager barrels in the historic brewery cellars. The brewery is open year-round. The journey from Prague takes about one-and-a-half hours and you can either travel on your own by car, bus or train.
The highlight of my time in Pilsen was the tour inside the brewery! Our guide Elizabeth was funny and very knowledgable, the beer tasting was just superb and the gift shop has some cool merch. If you go to Pilsen, you must do this tour.

The building alone was very impressive. The historical exhibits related to the history of the Jewish community in Plzen makes it quite interesting and special.

Just another fine example of a city center. The square is surrounded with interesting buildings, centered by a gorgeous church, fun art installations can be found as well. Appears the city really uses this space well for festival type events as well. Pilsen was great

This is an excellent place for children aged 5 to 95 as it is both hands on fun and really gets you thinking about the practical aspects of physics. If you thought you never understood physics at school you will come away with a better understanding as well as having had a good time. Parents with children will love it.

If you want to learn everything there is to know about beer, come and visit the Brewery Museum in Pilsen. It is located in the Pilsen centre in a 15th-century building with an original license to brew beer, which breathes the atmosphere of the Middle Ages. The Museum tells the story of the production, serving and drinking of beer from antiquity to the present time. Visitors aged 18 and older can look forward to tasting Pilsner Urquell beer there. On your visit to the Brewery Museum, pop in the Na Parkanu taproom, with its unique atmosphere of the 1930s. Go back in time and enjoy remarkable unfiltered Pilsner Urquell beer.
This brewery museum surpassed all my expectations. It is also at the start of the underground city tour. I highly suggest doing both (and stopping at Senk Na Parkanu restaurant which is adjacent for wonderful food and beer). The beer museum is huge, over 3 stories. There are many life-size exhibits and monitors with video and narration that fully explain all aspects of beet making, which is of utmost importance in the Czech Republic. We spent an hour in the museum and then went on a highly unusual underground exploration of the ancient history of the city. I highly recommend doing both. Get your tickets for the underground tour ahead of time as they sell out (English-speaking tour is only at certain times).
