Book ahead online ~ dont just show up... We booked their six senses tour plus lunch. Absolutely worth the price! The tour was of the wine making area, not the vineyards themselves. The tour had a few stops where you do a tasting plus paired with a small tapas. Very nice. The thing that makes this place and tour A+ is the food! Yes the wine is good too! The tapas served on the tour were wonderful with a lovely chef. The lunch in the restaurant was incredible. Wonderful staff, beautiful room and really creative good food! Worth every penny!

We had the pleasure to visit Convento Oreja during our stay in Penafiel a week ago. Fernando was a very welcoming host and told us a thorough background of the history of the winery and how they proces the grapes into wine in bottles. The visit was accompanied with a private tasting. We can highly recommend a visit to this micro winery and our review of the wines is that they produce very good quality. Robles was fresh and well balanced while Crianza and Reserva had more oak and complexity to it but again very well balanced. Next time we visit Ribera we will drop by again.

As a piece of living history of Rivera de Duero wines, I would always recommend to visit Bodegas Protos. The presentation and tour of the cellar is impressive, the guides manage to keep the attention and fun of it. Also the wine tasting is very funny and our guide (Primitiva) joked a lot with us. Even if your wine preference goes towards the more craft wines that you can find in smaller, family run business in the same region, it is worth just to see the cellars, learn a bit of history, get some proper wine tasting hints and have some fun. Don't forget to bring some warmer clothes if visiting in the summer,as the cellar keeps a temperature of around 12°

A very old Bullfighting plaza (not bullring!) With wood logs defending the houses entrances. A place to visit!

We went through Penafiel on a day trip and decided to drive up to the castle. We managed to arrive just before the last tour of the day so joined that instantly. The tour is only offered in Spanish so my partner had to translate for me, but even so it was still worth it. The castle was uniquely narrow and there were some great facts and stories about how it was built and what took place there. You need to be either a Spanish speaker, or with a Spanish speaker though to make the most of this as I would of missed out on so much information had it not been for my partner.
