This is a stunning place to stop off the side of the highway. We went in March and there was quite a bit of snow to hike through. When we made it to the bridge, it was the most stunning view. The waterfall was mostly frozen and was unbelievable! It was about a 10 minute walk to the bridge.

My favorite thing about this trail is that you are almost always within sight, sound, or both of Piedra River, which just makes it special. Being 2 people with 1 car, we didn't shuttle for a longer option, but still very enjoyable. Only hike we went back to a second time as we got rained out first time we tried it. Do go to Piedra Falls first, which is a beautiful but short hike. Had a lovely lunch break just beyond the middle fork bridge, and another day did the Ice Caves hike. However, it was our 3rd hike of that day and too much at that point in the heat. Another good picnic option is the Piedra River Picnic area just 1/4 mile away from the Piedra River trailhead parking lot.

This little-known ski resort boasts the highest snowfall totals in all of Colorado.
We are on our 7th year in a row skiing Wolf Creek. Even in a light year (like 2018), they still received over 200 inches of snow. The resort is super family friendly for food and beverage and parking lot turns into a great tail gating lunch break.
Avoid Texas Mountain week if you can. Every other week of the year with the exception of Christmas Break is an amazing experience. Also, check out the web cams to see how much real snow they have to get excited about your visit. Ski rental in town or at Wolf Creek is easy and affordable and the Lift ticket price is fair compared to their northern counterparts.

This hike is easy enough for elderly and "not in the best shape" people to do, but PLEASE wear proper shoes. Too many people hiking in flip flops! Gravely and fairly slippery in some places! Also, wear and/or bring bug spray. The falls are beautiful and cold! If you are there when it's warm, consider getting a little wet! Plenty of stream for the little one's to play in and spend a little rest before your hike back.

The most remote of the pueblo ruins in the Four Corners area
This is the most fascinating National Monument we have visited. The staff is apparently all volunteers. They are knowledgeable and informative as to the people who built this amazing pueblo in ancient times. Even if you're only driving between Pagosa Springs and Durango, make the short detour and tour the site. You won't regret it.

The riverfront is where it's all happening in downtown Pagosa and it's fun any time of day to stroll the banks, but especially in the afternoon when all the tubers come shooting down the rapids. Wade right in, it's clear and cool.

They house numerous wild animals that cannot be returned to the wild, such as grizzly bear, mountain lion, bobcat, etc. They feed them at 4pm each day, so we followed the lady around as she fed each animal, explaining how and when they received them, what they eat, etc. Fascinating!

Conveniently located just off US Highway 160 at the North end of the Village Center Plaza across from the Wyndham Sales Center
We stopped here to check out the caramels. As soon as we hit the door, the staff was there to offer us samples. The caramels are the best we have ever had. Bought at least a half dozen products. Delicious, and prices very reasonable. Staff...MoreWe are so glad you liked everything!

The Pagosa Springs Center for the Arts is one of the area’s largest cultural attractions, devoted to all aspects of the arts. It is located adjacent to U.S. 160 in Pagosa Springs just east of Piedra Road.
My wife and I were visiting Pagosa Springs on vacation. In preparation for the visit we purchased tickets to the performance of "Always, Patsy Cline". Wow, what talent. The two actresses were entertaining and the musical talent of the woman who played Patsy was amazing. The show was funny thanks to the roll of Louise. Great job everyone including the musicians. We are so glad that we attended.

After a wonderful drive on a forest road which was in reasonably good shape (I would recommend that a vehicle like the Grand Cherokee be the rental at the airport), we arrived at the trailhead for the Fourmile Falls. The trail was somewhat steep and hiking poles help. The falls were beautiful to behold!
