Mecca for Italian genealogy with an amazing staff. I was there in June 2019, pre-COVID and had a memorable experience. Not to be missed if you are a genealogy and local history fan.

From visiting either or both the jewels of Teggiano and Padula, the Battistero Paleocristiano San Giovanni in Fonte is easily accessible, beyond the road being quite old and a bit spotty along the way. This is not to dissuade anyone, as it's not a difficult drive in the least, just a bit slow for the last sector. The rewards (including amazing rustic peace) are near boundless for the minor effort. Here we encounter four frescoes on pieces, crystalline water almost reminiscent of a mini-Venetian mood. The additional bonus of travel in a shoulder season is an amazing tranquility utterly conducive to the environment. During summer season, we saw picnic tables positioned just a bit removed from the Baptistry yet ideal for a wonderful luncheon atmosphere.

Padula Charterhouse, in Italian Certosa di Padula (or Certosa di San Lorenzo di Padula), is a large Carthusian monastery, or charterhouse, located in the town of Padula, in the Cilento National Park (near Salerno) in Southern Italy. It is a World Heritage site.
Go with local guide Viviana Ricciardone if you can--she is deeply knowledgeable about this monastery. The Certosa is enormous, well-preserved, and, if you like history, art, architecture, and, if you have a family connection to the area like I do, a deep part of one's heritage. There is also an excellent book/gift shop, and the staff were all pleasant and accommodating. I am overdue to review--I was there in June 2019 and it was a very memorable day at the Certosa. If in Padula, it will be a major highlight of the visit.
