Considered by many to be one of the Best Real Ale Pubs in the area, the Red Lion is well known for its wide selection of real ales, served in a beautifully appointed pub maintained in a traditional style, with further seating available in the spacious beer garden. The Red Lion also offers a range of draught lager and ciders, spirits and bottled beverages, including an extensive gin and whisky menu. There is a pub quiz every Wednesday (very popular with the locals) as well as a pool table, complementary free wifi and daily newspapers, and the full selection of Sky Sports, BT Sports and freeview TV channels. The Red Lion has been a pub for 175 years - having been originally built in 1844 to serve the 'navvies' constructing the Penmaen railway tunnel. It was re-built in 1898 by the brewers, Samuel Allsopp & Co, and was historically owned by a number of other breweries before passing into private ownership.
The Red Lion is a lovely friendly, traditional local pub. There is always a warm welcome from the staff and regulars and when it is cold, sitting by a real fire is a treat. There is always an excellent selection of real ales which changes regularly.
