This fine art gallery is owned and operated by a group of local artists from the Maryland/Delaware shore. Since its inception in 2005, its 22+ artists and artisans have filled the space with original paintings and fine art reproductions as well as 3-dimensional glass, pottery, wood, textile and other art. Paintings cover a broad spectrum ranging from land and seascapes to images from distant travels, florals, still lifes, figures, mixed-media, abstract and surreal renderinsgs in traditional and contemporary treatment. The gallery is refreshed on an ongoing basis, and the entire space is rehung monthly to ensure that visitors are treated to the most recent and best work available. A special theme exhibit is hung each month, in which artist/owners display a painting representing his/her unique approach to a particular topic. We are open year round, 7 days a week with exception of a few holidays.

At this 150-acre retreat, you can relax on a calm bayside beach, observe native plants and animals, and hike three miles of trails through seven distinct habitats! In 1992, the Preserve property was given to Sussex County by the late Mary Lighthipe, a descendant of the James family who farmed the land for generations. This generous donation was made in memory of her son, Harold, on the condition that the property be used for educational and recreational purposes. The Preserve has been managed by the Delaware Center for the Inland Bays on behalf of Sussex County since 1998.
I’ve been a regular visitor to the Bethany Beach area for over a decade and this summer was the first time I found out about James Farm! I visited twice, once with my fiancé and once with family - three adults and three kids. The walk from the parking area to the beach takes you through several varied habitats, and you can walk back on a different path and see even more variety. From meadow to swamp to spruce trees to cedar the variety is impressive. The beach is adjacent to the Indian River Inlet and features calm and very shallow waters at low tide. Great for spotting horseshoe crabs, ospreys, salp and even teeny tiny crabs. The area wasn’t crowded on either visit, seeing only a handful of others on the first and a dozen at most on the second. Kayaking rentals are available at the beach as well.

My family has used Oceanova almost since they opened in Ocean View. The owner Rosanne will work with you to make the schedule work and is terrific at getting to know your preferences and "pairing" you with the best employee for the job. I have NEVER had less than an amazing experience at both locations. Massage, facial, pedi, and the sauna (Bethany location only)...all fantastic in a beautiful and relaxing environment!
