The hike through town and in and around the fortifications was a great way to spend Christmas Day with friends. Walking off the excess of the night before was made even more enjoyable by the sites. There are parts of the wall you can walk along, and I think on days other than Christmas there are parts you can go into and visit (various towers).

Welcome to the Tower Museum “Auf Schoenburg” The museum is open on all days during the hotel saison except Mondays! The old gate tower tells the visitors about its 700-year history and reveal that Schoenburg was one of the few castles that could really defend in case of emergency ! A great slingshot simulation shows how to knight times they besieged and destroyed a castle. At the top level of the tower is the observation deck that shows a breathtaking view of the Rhine Valley. We are looking forward to your visit!

I loved our stay here. The room and bed was comfortable, and there were nice touches like Mozart Kugeln and a decanter of sherry in our room. The four course dinner with matching wines was divine and I was impressed at how well my food allergies were accommodated. Helpful service in the hotel and restaurant. Would love to return.

This is one of my favorite church. It is right next to the train station. It is close from 12-2 so plan accordingly. The Altar, the Rood, the Frescos. I love it!

The town wall goes around most of the town. It has several towers. We only did the part that goes along the Rhine. The steps going up to the top are uneven and need care. The walk is on top of the wall, not enclosed on any side, like the one in Rothenburg. There is an iron rail for safety. The walking surface is uneven. Great views of the Rhine.
