It is not until the last decade that the Crna reka Monastery (transl. The Black River Monastery) became a popular religious and tourist destination. Situated near the village of Ribariće in south-west Serbia, this 13th century monastery is considered to be one of the most unusual due to its authentic position adn architectural style, as well as the unveiled history of its existence. A narrow road leading to the monastery from the village of Ribariće is the only possible way for getting to this hidden gem. Its wonderfully preserved interiors will simply leave you speechless. Isolation from civilazation, ascetic way of life of monks and complex history of the region have given an additional value to the monastery, which you will see it for yourself once you get there. If you're in the region of Novi Pazar, make sure to visit this amazing monastery!

As you can read about Sopocani, this place is work of art and posses really good preserved frescoes. You can also imagine fortress around monastery which brings you back to medieval period. We were visiting during "covid19 crisis" so it was really quiet and peaceful. They also built in front of monastery place to refresh, with few tables and chairs, water and tea, where you can sit and rest for a bit. Definitly worth visiting

When you're growing up in Serbia, since elementary school and after you listen about monasteries built by different rulers from Nemanjic family. Djurdjevi stupovi is on breathtaking location. Also the feeling is hard to describe. You can see how much this place suffer from wars, raids and of course time. Still, it's proudly standing on high ground watching over for people (at least that's the feeling i got). I'll say, this is is must seen place

This place was mesmerizing, both for the religious and for the historical aspect. The priest's wife let us in, as it was late Sunday afternoon and the church was locked, she was very welcoming and respectfully let us pray and wander around the church. It was a beautiful experience to have a such a piece of history to ourselves, and a spiritual experience. But most fascinating were the frescoes inside, which still survive from the 7th and 9th Century. There is something very special about having the chance to participate and visit structures built in Roman and Medieval periods by people we read about in history books and see the art (frescoes) and tombstones/inscriptions which they themselves carved and admired, and pray in the same places they did. A gem in the South of Serbia!
