Every neighborhood in San Francisco has its own personality, from the hippie chic of the Upper Haight to the hipster grit of the Mission. The Marina district boasts trendy bistros and postcard-perfect views of the Golden Gate Bridge, while Noe Valley offers quaint and quiet boutiques. Wave hello to the sea lions at Pier 39, and sample local cheese and charcuterie at the Ferry Building. Sit in on a yoga session in Dolores Park or marvel at the Dutch Windmill across from Ocean Beach.

Loved this hands on interactive museum and had to drag my teenage daughter out of it! It does get crowded so go early and it is mostly for children of all ages and those young at heart. Great interactive exhibits and demonstrations and on the waterfront so you can walk to Pier 39 and Fisherman's Wharf

Major street in the port area of San Francisco that has become a bustling area of shops, businesses and sightseeing attractions.
We enjoyed a long drive along the Embarcadero on a Sunday and noticed the numbers of people enjoying their strolls at a safe distance. On a sunny day this is one of the best places in San Francisco for a walk. Lots to see and enjoy, the waterfront, the piers, the Ferry Building, the Bay Bridge.

Take in a view of the Bay Bridge while strolling on this scenic pier.
The Embarcadero can be very busy with tourists, joggers, cyclists, etc. The pier offers a nice respite from all the traffic as it juts out into the bay. With nice views of the Bay Bridge and the bay, it's a nice walk to the end and to stop and relax, even if just for a a short time.

With more than 125 stores on three levels, plus seasonal concerts, festivals or art displays for the enervated shopper.
I once worked here and it was a joy to wander through the shops at lunch time, and then maybe pop into a bar for happy hour. And there are a few good restaurants. The design is classic 70s urban renewal, a nice harmonious collection of a hotel and some office buildings that look like books in a library. Good design.

This bar, featuring great music nightly, is always packed.
On the last day of our trip to California, our niece took us to the Pier 23 Cafe. It was on the water, a beautiful day and we sat outside. We each ordered something different but I have to say, the peel and eat shrimp was the best I’ve ever had! Our service was great. It was the perfect restaurant to end our trip with. I highly recommend it.

Antique and art lovers will enjoy browsing this area's many shops and galleries.
I walked through Jackson Square area enjoying seeing the many historic buildings there. Jackson Square is located between Montgomery and Sansome Avenue. Several of the buildings are 19th century. They were built after the 1851 city fire and survived the 1906 earthquake.

Love the soft and hard sides of the design. The water feature is spectacular, and I love the vegetation. Stairs to telegraph hill are adjacent.
