Conquering New York in one visit is impossible. Instead, hit the must-sees – the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty, Central Park, the Metropolitan Museum of Art – and then explore off the beaten path with visits to The Cloisters or one of the city’s libraries. Indulge in the bohemian shops of the West Village or the fine dining of the Upper West Side. The bustling marketplace inside of Grand Central Station gives you a literal taste of the best the city has to offer.

Immersed in color. Cradled in sound. Built for musical nirvana. We wanted to create the ultimate listening room, which put the focus on the artists and their craft, but also had a relaxed, downtown energy. The result is an intimate, underground space, bathed in evocative light, that conjures up more jewel box than black box - a home-away-from-home for those who love art in all its many facets.
Last year we were invited to attend a performance in this funky, underground space. We had no idea this place existed. We saw an excellent, avant garde performance by two young, super- talented performers. Thomas Nickell, a classically trained internationally acclaimed pianist ( Carnegie Hall, etc) and his partner and fellow composer, a female percussionist by the name of Fiona Stocks-Lyons. She killed it on those drums! (Move over Clyde Stubblefield)! They were doing some original music, and it was great to discover new artists in a professional hall that was also really intimate. I just noticed that these two performers are going to be back at SubCulture on November 13th to perform original ballet music. We're definitely going! These two might be the next White Stripes with a little Glenn Gould and Keith Moon on the side. They're also both really attractive, so that just adds to their unique vibe and style. You should definitely check them and this space out!

Founded in 1954 as the Shakespeare Workshop, this non-profit theater presents full seasons of new plays, musicals, Shakespeare and the classics in various venues throughout New York City.
It has been many years since I attended a performance at the Public Theatre and this was the first time for my wife. We were most fortunate to see one of the last performances of “Mother of the Maid” with the fantastic Glenn Close and an excellent supporting cast of actors. Our seats in the center of row G on the right side of the theatre had excellent sight lines and were very comfortable. Although I try not to pay full price for theatre, on this occasion I had to but it was well worth the $95, although a fee of $7 per ticket was, I consider, somewhat high but living in South Carolina, I had no choice.

The Merchant's House Museum is New York City's only 19th century home preserved intact, with original family furnishings and personal belongings.A unique survivor of Old New York, the House offers a rare and intimate glimpse of how a prosperous merchant family and their Irish servants lived from 1835 to 1865, when New York grew from seaport to thriving metropolis."The distinction of the Merchant's House -- and it is a powerful one -- is that it is the real thing. One simply walks through the beautiful doorway into another time and place in New York."The New York Times
I am a fan of Dicken’s literature and have nearly memorized A Christmas Carol, so I was. It excited about seeing it performed at Merchant House during our Christmas visit to anew York City. How wrong I was! The performance is a “one man show “ in the parlor of Merchnt House. Chairs are set up in the parlor and dining room, lit by electronic candle light. The performer was outstanding, and the ambience of Merchant House made the book come alive in the excellent rendition. Time flew by as the story unfolded. It was wonderful! I highly recommend seeing it if you are in NYC during the Christmas holidays, starting in mid November. Merchant House itself was very interesting as a historical site in Greenwich Village.

Service everywhere was great. There are only great seats here with such a small and intimate venue. We didn’t eat but had drinks to satisfy the minimum and we’re fine with the selection and (high but expectedly so) prices. The performances by Kittel and Co. and Gretchen Parlato Flor we’re both excellent. This is the place to see great art!

After living in Manhattan for two decades, Astor Wines & Spirits ranks as one of my top ten places that make the City special. It's not too much to say that their stock is out-and-out curated, and the depth of knowledge of their staff is stellar. Furthermore in-city deliveries are fast and their website is a pleasure to navigate, with staff selections, notes on the alcohol and a dizzying selection. While I haven't tried their tastings or classes (on virtually any drink subject, it seems!) I look forward to, and I have a lot of friends who love them and attend as couples, not unlike cooking classes elsewhere. I absolutely recommend visiting rather than online ordering since it's a pleasure to simply get lost in the store. If you're anything like me, you'll end up leaving with exactly what you wanted -- as well as with one or two new things to try; it's hard not to go down unexplored rabbit holes when they make it as easy and wonderful as this!

Blue Man Group is comedy, theater, rock concert and dance party all rolled into one. This wildly popular phenomenon delivers an unforgettable multi-sensory experience. It’s an outrageous evening of entertainment you’ll never forget. Don’t miss the show that has captivated 35 million people worldwide. Blue Man Group - enemy of monotony, remedy for boredom, promoter of overjoy and elation. DARE TO LIVE IN FULL COLOR
And by that title, I mean, the Blue Man Group guys did not need to utter a single word to entertain. A zany, comical musical theatre show for all ages - it's crazy to think that the BMG can crack up an entire audience with mostly just gestures, facial expressions, and talent. Words weren't really used or needed, which made it that much better of an experience. Such a treat!
