Overlooking the Hudson River in Tarrytown, New York, is Lyndhurst, one of America’s finest Gothic Revival mansions. Designed in 1838 by Alexander Jackson Davis, its architectural brilliance is complemented by the park-like landscape of the estate and a comprehensive collection of original decorative arts. Its noteworthy occupants included: former New York City mayor William Paulding, merchant George Merritt, and railroad tycoon Jay Gould. Lyndhurst is a site of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
Our guide, Jim, gave such an informative, interesting tour of the mansion. You came away feeling you really got to know a lot about the people who had lived there! Every room was breathtaking in furnishings and decorations for Christmas! This was a perfect time to visit! Even though the mansion is very large, it felt like a home...just lovely!

Grand home and grounds of this former Rockefeller estate offer a marvelous collection of modern sculptures, Chinese and European ceramics, fine furnishings and beautifully landscaped terraces and gardens. KYKUIT IS TEMPORARILY CLOSED UNTIL MAY 3. Please continue to check this listing or go to our website for updates.
I took the Kykuit house tour of the home and grounds. I did not expect to see such spectacular views and a Picasso art collection that was so extensive. Our guide, "Merla" was a treasure. She made every room and outdoor view come alive. The weather that day could not be better and the grounds were as interesting as the home. Be sure to go on a day when good weather is predicted. You will be amazed at the sheer beauty of the location as well as the extensive and priceless art collection. What was particularly special was how close you could get to the objects. So much better than any museum.

The premier US military academy.
The Visitor's Center offers a multitude of services. One can pick up reserved tickets for the Academy Tour and shop at the Gift Store. The best part of the center, though, was the exhibit featuring West Point. The explanation of the history of the Academy, a description of the 4 years that the Cadets experience, a replica of a Cadet's room, the importance of the honor code, and more.
A great visit!

What a great park to visit just wish perkins memorial tower was open at this time of year. The zoo is free and absolutely amazing with tiny little museums scattered about and fort clinton and indian camps within the zoo. There is also an amazing view of bear mt bridge. A total must see. The other trail right of the zoo was just as cool, it leads you down the mountain to the hudson excursion docks with another cool view of the bridge. And there is a really cool spot to watch the freight trains go by super close!

This unassuming country church contains a stained glass window by Henri Matisse and nine windows by Marc Chagall, all commissioned by Nelson A. Rockefeller. The enthralling story of the windows and how they came to be here is the story of relationships among distinguished patrons and collectors of modern art, two great 20th-century artists, and the leading connoisseurs and tastemakers of the day. WINDOW-VIEWING TOURS ARE TEMPORARILY UNAVAILABLE UNTIL APRIL 2. Please continue to check this listing or go to our website for updates.
Time: Visited Sunday mid-September around 4:30. Perfect for natural lighting for the Good Samaritan Chagall window and the Matisse Rose window.
Duration: Seasoned docent delivered a rapid-fire compelling narrative for each window. (15 minutes). Since a large tour group was to arrive, there was no opportunity for questions.
Gift: Purchase postcards or a packet at the back of the church.
If you are intending to visit NY for shopping, you should start in this outlet. Literally al brands are available (over 200 shops) and the experience is very convenience. Free parking, clean center and convenient stores. We visited this outlet just after Easter and still good bargains were available. There are enough food outlets and the staff is generally friendly. After visiting many outlets across the countries, this is definitely my favorite. Don't forget to download the coupons from the web.

A 1930s theater.
This theater is a throwback to the old movie theaters that existed in my childhood. Extraordinarily beautifully decorated and furnished, large selection of various entertainment venues, large number of seats, a balcony, large public parking, many great restaurants within walking distance to theater. If you want to go to a wonderful theater that would remind you of the 50's and earlier, and not travel to the city, this is the place to go to after attending one of the numerous great restaurants found around the theater. Do not miss.
