A state park within driving distance of Atlanta offering picnic areas, hiking trails, a lake for swimming, boat rentals and rustic cottages.
We stopped by here on a memory lane detour on the way home from Atlanta. My grandmother was from Jackson and she would take us here during summers growing up. I probably haven't been in over 15 years. This place is so beautiful. The rocky creek where we used to wade and fish is so nice. The park is very well maintained and the grounds and old stone buildings are just incredible. We stopped at a couple of playgrounds that my 4-year-old loves. We didn't get any healing water from the spring because of people waiting to fill huge jugs but the smell brought back so many memories. I love this place. I hope it won't be another 15 years before I come back.

An 1850s style plantation country house bed and breakfast in middle Georgia. Next to the Jarrell Plantation State Historic Site and near The Whistle Stop Cafe in Juliette, movie set for the movie "Fried Green Tomatoes".
We spent a delightful 2 hours here. Start with the documentary film and then walk the property. Each stop is well signed. It is fascinating learning about the Jarrell family over the generations. They were certainly hard working and entrepreneurial. Everything is preserved just as it was when it was still lived in.
A note, some of the paths are a little steep and uneven.

These stories were read to us when I was in elementary school. Had no idea there was a museum about it. Saw the signs and decided to stop. So glad we did. this was a part of our childhood. 'Brer Rabbit and all the others. Very interesting to find out how these stories came about. Loved it

Located in Jasper County, this facility is a great place for banquets, events and day hikes. We've enjoyed several lovely weekend days wandering the trails and viewing the exhibits in the visitor's center. It's worth a visit -- or two.

Burnt Pine Plantation features a 26 bed lodge for guests who come to enjoy the old fashioned southern quail hunting. For over 39 years we have been producing lasting memories. It's what quail hunting used to be in the "Old South" and still is at Burnt Pine. Excellent dog work, fast flying quail, along with great food and upscale lodging makes it a perfect get away. Only one hour east of Atlanta
Having been fortunate to hunt with many different outfitters over the years, I can truly say that my time at Burnt Pine Plantation was something I will never forget. The lodge is beautiful. The rooms are clean and comfortable and the food was remarkable. The...MoreThank you for the kind words. The Burnt Pine team awaits your return for another fun outing.

We camped at Indian Springs. We drove over to Monticello to tube the Ocmulgee River. We stopped at Sac-O-Suds and paid for our tubing. It was $12.50 per person to do the short run. That included shuttle, life vest, and tube rental. We were told it would take about 2-3 hours. We were taken by shuttle to the put in spot on the river. We got in and off we went. It was very relaxing. The water felt wonderful and was a little cooler than I thought it would be. It was 95 degrees outside so the water was refreshing. We had dragon flies that stayed with us and landed on our knees and our tubes. It took us about 1 hour and 30 minutes. We were told we would see stairs on the side of the river and that is where you get out. We left our tubes at the bottom of the hill and took our life jackets back to the store. We will definitely do this again with our kids. It was great!

Love, love, love!!!!! Not sure what I was expecting but this little place is amazing!! We fed the turtles, geese and fish. Walked around the reptile exhibit but didn't make it to barnyard. Daddy was waiting in the car with the dogs. We left and walked the beginner trail loop. Beautiful trails!! This place was adorable. Well worth the drive. Also conveniently located between High Falls and Indian Springs State Parks.

Wander through the gardens to discover whimsical antiques, fountains, garden decor, and unique statues. Gardeners will love the vegetables, envy the cut flower garden, and marvel at the gazebos.
Can't add much more than has already been said by other contributors. Very interesting place with beautiful gardens. Not much signage telling you what your looking at, but I like the owners personal tough here.
Easy to miss. Just south of Indian Springs. Not very good signage.

This is a phenomenal effigy to view, considering how very old it is. It is on the National Registry of Historical Places, which means it should be handicapped accessible. However, one must climb three flights of steps to get to the top. There is a similar effigy about 20 miles due east on state Hwy. 16, entitled the Rock Hawk effigy. If you are going to make the effort to see the Rock Eagle one, you should take the time to see the Rock Hawk one, as well.

Relaxing, rejuvenating, refreshing. We offer nature, gardens, history, luxury lodging, art, and shopping, all located beside the oldest state park in the U.S. This family vacation spot is the perfect amount of civilization, while still being able to get away from it all.
There is a lot going on in this little village. History, gardens, shops, romantic cottages, party/wedding venues, the oldest state park in the US, healing mineral water spring, hiking & biking trails, an unbelievable Amphitheater . A very special nature center - Dauset Trails - is 1/2 mile around the corner. Well worth a trip, just check the web site: www.thevillageatindiansprings.com for hours and events.
