Byers' Choice Christmas Gallery

Reviewed By westie8213 - Westlake, Ohio

I collect Byers Choice Figures.. have been doing so for over 30 years. I started with the original Carolers and they have since added many new things to their line. For example, the Kindles, Christmas mice, etc. So, to be surrounded by hundreds of them for me was truly an experience.

It was fascinating to watch the artisans at work from an upstairs viewing area..13 individuals have a hand in creating these dolls. There are no two dolls exactly alike because of so many people working on each one.

There is a short introductory film and then free self guided tours are offered from Wednesday to Saturday from 10 until 4:30. Then, it's time to shop in the Emporium! There is one spring figurine, a lady in a lavender print dress with a big straw hat that can only be purchased at this store as a token of thanks to the many visitors.

Incredible - and free- humongous play structure for kids and big kids at heart alike. Massive four story structure with two giant slides, climbing galore, a place to picnic and tons to see/explore. Little kids have a nearby area, but be prepared to chase them as they chase the older ones. Don't come when too hot (no shade) but a great place to visit w kids in Bucks County.

Peace Valley Park

We've been going to Peace Valley for decades. Lake galena was where I learned to windsurf before they ruined the launch area. You can still rent rowboats and canoes. A six mile walking trial is perfect thought a few hills will get you working. The nature center is a treat.

Picnic areas are nice and I understand you can reserve them for family picnics, etc.

Biggest problem is bicycling around the lake has gotten to be a struggle because of the poor condition of the trails and others with baby carriages and strollers have complained as well. Once upon a time it was fun for roller blades, too, but forget it now.

The Stoogeum

Reviewed By BJ_Wanlund - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Made a little visit to The Stoogeum today, and it's basically a comedy fan's goldmine, especially if you're a gigantic Three Stooges fan. I've seen a couple of their shorts myself, and a few of their cartoon appearances, so I was semi-familiar with their catalogue. And even *I* was blown away by how extensive this place was. There are three levels. One has an art gallery of Stooges related art, one has a couple of Stooges arcade cabinets (including a Three Stooges pinball game and a modern Three Stooges ticket redemption game I think) and a number of artifacts, and one has a TON of goodies, like old lobby cards, old movie posters, old merchandise, lots of autographed pictures of the guest stars of many of those old Stooges shorts, and so much more. I actually spent an entire hour there (THAT I wasn't expecting), and I definitely plan on going back there, especially since I'm in the general neighborhood. If you're in the area and they're open (they're usually open on Thursdays from 10 to 3 or by appointment), go! It's a complete hidden gem of a location. It's tucked in behind an office park on a side street, but it is SO cool.

Ambler Theater

The Ambler Theater, built in 1928, is a modified Spanish design. It is a nonprofit community-owned theater with approximately 6,000 members. The theater seats 140 and 110 in 2 of the auditoriums. Renovations to the third auditorium were completed in 2007 and it seats 270. The theater features dolby digital sound, stadium seating, handicap access and hearing impaired services.

The Ambler Theater is a local gem and an antidote to the horrid multiplex, cookie cutter theaters that predominate in the suburbs It is the closest movie experience to the Ritz theaters that we have in the suburbs. Much of the original architecture of an "ancient" movie palace have been retained. The lobby is small but authentic. So is the small refreshment stand.
Seats are comfortable and the theaters are small enough so the screen occupies much of your line of sight. The attendees are usually well behaved
and respectful of others.
Left for last is the outstanding moves that only Ambler brings to the screen - small independent productions, foreign films, documentaries, televised performances.
