Top 10 Things to do in Mombasa, Coast Province

June 18, 2021 Kandra Bartel

Mombasa, with a population of 900,000, is no sleepy seaside village. Its beachfront hotels appeal to travelers in search of sun, sand and surf, while its Arab, Indian and colonial European heritage makes for a wide variety of sights to see. Can't find a taxi? Fort Jesus Museum

Fort Jesus is Mombasa’s most popular tourist attraction. The fort, located along the coastline near the Old Town, is a monumental piece of architecture that was built in the 16th century by the Portuguese. The fort has a museum that displays various artifacts from the era where Mombasa served as a transit point for the slave trade and commodities, and which enjoyed regular visits by seafarers and the like

I have seen Haller Park, formerly known as the Bamburi Nature Trail, grow from its humble starts in the 70's to what it is today, a text book example of a wasteland transformation which turned it into a nature reserve and home for many species of animals and birds. A must visit location when in Mombasa.
