As we approached the junction near Kapikirri where there is a sign to the tombs we got flagged down by a group of elderly ladies crouched on the ground doing needle work.
One of them insisted upon being our guide even though we didn't want one.
Regardless, she followed us to the tombs and then to my surprise the rest followed too. We were surprised at how spritely they were as they seemed to be well passed their prime.
Fascinating view of the ruins at the top, the numerous tombs and a great view of the lake.
The 'Ladies' would not leave us alone and they laid out their wares.
Quite frankly there was nothing that we wanted to buy- their lace fish seemed to be something they thought we could not do without.( we could)
We were discussing amongst ourself if we should give them some money anyway but they had gone.
Expecting to see them back at the cars- they had completely disappeared!
As we drove up to the village we were surrounded by elderly people and suddenly it occurred to me that we could have walked onto a film set of 'Sean of the dead'!
With difficulty I turned around in a very tight road and put my foot down- the experience was really scary.
Had a big giggle about it later that evening, it was actually one of our highlights!

I stayed in Apollonium Spa & Beach Resort for 2 weeks.Experience is unforgetable.Food was very tasty, territory of hotel is clean and large. The best thing in hotel was animation team. These guys were very nice and fun to spend time with.Everyday there was several activities like golf, water polo, volleyball and e.t.c. I am sure that activities could be boring if there wasn't any animators.Rooms were very clean and comfy too.Sea is near the hotel,so you can easily reach it within 5 minutes. What can i say? One of the best 2 weeks that i spent in my life.

Perhaps only 10km. north of Milas, on your right there is Euromos with its very picturesque ruins of the temple of Zeus. Many Corinthian columns are still standing. The temple is not as impressive as the one in e.g. Didyma but is utterly more charming. It is situated at the bottom of olive tree filled dell, only some 200m from the main road and indeed is visible as you drive by. The temple precinct is surrounded by the remains of city walls but not much remains. It is easy to miss the road sign as-typically for Turkey- you must turn before it, not after like in many other countries; so there is no warning. Drive slow. The ticket costs just 5TL but apart from the rudimentary car park there are no other facilities. As always it is advisable to have a bottle of water as the heat is unrelenting.

This place is not well publicised but is worth a visit. The bar restaurant has fantastic views over the valley and the caves are a 450m walk along a mostly shaded walkway wit mostly well formed steps. The caves offers welcome cool spot out of the heat. The guide did not speak English but was very friendly. The caves were bigger and more beautiful than I expected.

If you happen to drive through Milas, which is perhaps half an hour away from Bodrum, the site is well worth a brief stop for those interested in antiquity. You can then drive on north to Ephesus or Didyma along the coast. Use sat-nav or google maps as getting there is a bit convoluted even though Milas is only a little town. The monument is a second century AD Roman tomb shaped after the famous Mausoleum of Halicarnassus/Bodrum. Being a miniature version it nevertheless gives one an idea what a splendid tomb Mausolus had had built for himself. It is well preserved and surrounded by a somewhat neglected little park with plenty of shaded benches to sit on and soak in the atmosphere. The park itself spreads on a small incline and you can easily park your car in streets around it. You access the site either from Milas itself or from the main road D525 Milas-Selimiye (turn towards the hospital), which is easier.

While driving from Bodrum to İzmir,we have stopped at this part and wanted to visit it.What a pity that you see just the old ruins and some part of remainders of buikdings in bad conditions, that's all. However we have also learnt from some local people living in this area that a rearrangement project has been just approved by the Muğla Cultural and Natural Heritage Preservation Board and put out to a tender by the İzmir Relief Monuments Council. This is very good news that within one or two years time we will be able to see this beautiful Castle in much better conditions.

Bit off the beaten track, Iasos is situated in the village of Kiykislacik, a quiet little coastal village, with a small harbour and a few restaurants/cafes, where refreshments can taken.
The main site of the ruins is not huge, but it is peaceful and atmospheric and interesting to visit, there is a wider area to explore if you wish to.

The town has its visitors for many centuries cause it is location. It may be a little far from sea but has lots of treasures inside. So the museum of Milas has amazing historical findings inside. And if you are interested in archeology you should see it.
