I enjoy visiting the McKinney town square and looked forward to introducing my sister in laws and nieces to it on our girl's weekend. They were delighted with the shopping opportunities and the variety of eating establishments.

Nature Reserve, garden, hiking trails and nature center provides an escape to nature.
We needed to get outside on a beautiful winter day and decided on a visit to the Heard Natural Science Museum. Our first stop was at the visitor center to get tickets and a map. The fee of $50.00 was reasonable for four adults and two children. The center offers several exhibits on the main and lower floors. There is a small gift shop that is conveniently stocked with many items under $5.00. After exploring the inside exhibits, head outside to the trails. Be careful. You will encounter some scary animated dinosaurs along the way. There is a frontier town which is actually a group of playhouses. Live animals are also located near this area. There are several spots with picnic tables to enjoy lunch or a snack.

Located just a few blocks away from the historic square in McKinney, the village of Chestnut Square is a peaceful and memorable tribute to the legacy of this grand old town. Very much worth the short stroll off the beaten path.

Bonnie Wenk Dog Park is "the" nicest and cleanest dog park we've ever visited with our schnauzer, PacMan.
When you enter you go through a series of gates to prevent accidental escapees. There are 2 separate areas - one for small to medium dogs and one for large, larger, and largest dogs.
The big dog area is very large. I see people using frisbees as well as ball-launching toys with their animal friends. The small dog area is good sized as well. Plenty of room for playing toss and fetch with your buddy.
My favorite part is a water play area accessible by all dogs. It is a concrete fountain with water coming from the ground and shooting up into the air. The dogs (and even kids) have a great time with this on those miserable, hot Texas summer days.
If you do visit be a responsible pet owner and use the provided doggie poop bags to pickup after your pet. If you see some poop (from a low-life pet owner who doesn't care) grab a bag and pick it up. Let's help keep it clean for the benefit of our shoes, but especially for our pet's sake.

This is a large and well appointed park. Two group pavilions that can be rented; small lake for fishing, feeding ducks and paddle boats to rent. Playground, horseshoe pits, volleyball court and plenty of picnic tables with grills. Walking trail goes all the way around the lake, with fountain in the center. Well maintained and generally quiet. We have an annual family picnic here every fall.

Like most breweries, it's a warehouse setting, so in the "winter" months you need to dress accordingly! Lots of great beer options and even some nice non-alcohol beverages for those interested. Food truck options change but there's always something delicious on site. There's a large section in back with bags and jenga if you are feeling competitive.

Landon Winery is a Texas winery that has two locations where wines can be sampled; historic downtown McKinney, Texas and historic downtown Greenville, Texas both of which are close to Dallas and Fort Worth. Our goal is to run a winery known for crafting award-winning Texas wines. Watch us make our wines at either location. We have produced many internationally recognized award winning wines. We source our Texas grapes from vineyards in the Texas high plains south of Lubbock and even some grapes from outside of Texas.Enjoy wine tastings at the bar, wine by the glass, wine by the bottle or take a bottle home with you. McKinney offers a great patio, live music on Friday and Saturday nights, cheeseboards, and an indoor tuscan atmosphere. Stop by for an afternoon break or enjoy a cool evening on the patio under the stars.
Friday night four of us decided to hang out at Landon Winery and listen to the wonderful music coming from their open air patio. They have a prime spot on the McKinney Square with a beautiful patio to enjoy nice weather, watch people walking the square and listening to live music. The brick flooring gives it a cobblestone feel. Inside, the decor is parchment yellow walls and heavy wood for tables, wine racks and bar.
We tried three different wines and did not like them at all. The Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve was very young. There is not a full body mouth feel with aged tannins. The fruity aspect overpowers the wine. The Riesling was not complex and did not offer a light refreshing taste. The sangria was grape juice. We did not finish two of the three drinks.
I love wine. I love wine rooms like this, but the wine has to be reasonable to enjoy. You add unhelpful employees that look like that rather be anywhere but here, and you make this a place I do not want to visit.

Cam gives an excellent talk and answered all our questions! Very informative! The beers were exceptionally tasty. Cam was willing to explain the process for as long as it took and as many questions as we had!
Special shout out and thanks to Dennis for allowing us the privilege of experiencing this traditional German brewed beer! (Even on a none tour day because we came soo far to see "came" just for the tour;)). Thanks again for everything! Would go again in a heartbeat!

This review does not present a full review of the performing arts center. My goal as I traverse the state is to capture images of all the courthouses in the state of Texas. This old Collin County Courthouse happens to be one, as well as the larger new county offices north of town. As far as town squares anchored by old courthouses, this is a very good one. Not the best in the state, but nice. However, the square with all the redevelopment in the area is impressive. Parking is a huge problem in this area. So if attending an event or having dinner prior, get there early.

Erwin Park has an extraordinary hiking/biking trail. It's not a trail for amateur off-roaders, so please keep that in mind if you head out there intending to enjoy a casual ride under the trees. Most mountain bikers who visit are friendly and courteous. The trail is regularly maintained by D.O.R.B.A., one of the largest off-road bicycle clubs in the U.S. Springtime at Erwin is especially lovely with the wildflowers. I'm not sure how much longer this park will be able to offer its magnificent trail system, as the surrounding area is quickly developing and wanting access to more land. Enjoy this park in its near-original condition, plus beautiful trail, while you can.
