McHenry is a city in McHenry County, Illinois, United States. The 2010 U.S. census reported its population at 26,992 and rests at an elevation of 797 feet. McHenry was at one time the county seat of McHenry County, which once included adjoining Lake County to the east. McHenry took its name from McHenry County, which was named for Major William McHenry, an Indian fighter.

This is a beautiful place to bike or walk, alone or with significant others or pet(s). I and my wife usually bike, starting by McHenry Dam, riding the trail along the river, then taking it under River Road into Moraine Hills. There are plenty of curves and hills to keep the ride fun, and we always see geese and swans and other forms of wildlife -- deer or turkeys or muskrats, turtles or snakes or fish. The trails are well-maintained crushed limestone and there are bathrooms at several places along the trails. If you take all the trails, it winds up being roughly 9 miles from start to finish. If you're not up for doing them all, there are several access points with parking that allow for shorter options.

Very friendly atmosphere. Wonderful produce! In season you can pick your own strawberries, raspberries or buy them already picked. Great selection of homemade canned salsa, jams etc. The employees are inviting and helpful. They also have fests that children and adults can enjoy.

They always have a great selection of movies each week, perfect date night. The food in the concession stand is pretty good as well.
