A retirement project for Doris and Sylvain who got a dump piece of land to start a garden.
Honestly we didn't know that morning if we were going to ... visit a garden .. And pay for this, when so many Beaches and trail were calling around.
Once we entered in this garden we could instantly feel that this wasn't only a garden.
It felt to us as a little miraculous place were people can find themselves back.
Doris and Sylvain have accomplished so much. Their heart is so big and they so human and humble ... Many people are willing to volunteer there .
Sylvain showed us his friend's private collections of boats , astonishing ! Never saw so beautiful replicas.
That's why we say: just take 90' of your time and go connect to your heart in this garden always in the making.

Great place for tinies and teens - swings and skateboard- friendly paths. We were lucky enough to ugh to be here for the evening free cinema screening, which was very outlaw. Walking distance from the town centre. There's a supervised swimming beach, a little ice cream shop and you can hire canoes etc.

Matane's Lighthouse Tourist information office of La Matanie, part of the Gaspe peninsula. Open between early June to late September from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Guided tour of the lighthouse from early July to mid-August (10 a.m. to 5 p.m.). Be sure to have good shoes on your feet (not sandals). Children that are too young to climb a ladder are not allowed. 4$/adult, 2$/children. Little museum on the maritim history of Matane's region (free). There is also a little shop where there is only artworks from the local artist and artisans. Informations for the International Appalachian Trail. Toilets inside the building.
A great little tourist office with helpful staff and plenty of information leaflets. There's a museum corner too and some locally-made trinkets and knitwear. Good for a 10 minute stop off on your coastal bike tour. Super views of the mighty river from up here too.

Recognized first and foremost for its exceptionally rich wildlife, the Matane Wildlife Reserve offers nearly 1300 km2 (500 sq. mi.) of breathtaking panoramas combining Mountains and deep Valleys crisscrossed by numerous waterways. The reserve offers over 100 km (60 mi.) of hiking trails. Look for changes in the vegetation as you hike along the Mont Blanc trail, and feast your eyes on the spectacular mountain scenery along the International Appalachian Trail. If you like wild berries, you can pick juicy raspberries in season during your stay on the wildlife reserve. The 2-km long (1.2-mi.) Étang à la Truite pond awaits you for a lovely kayaking excursion. Who knows-you might spot moose in their natural habitat as you paddle. Wildlife observation is the featured activity in the Matane Wildlife Reserve. Mud flats allow enthusiasts to observe moose. The Étang-à-la-Truite Interpretation Centre is a must for those wishing to learn more about this impressive animal. Over 150 species of birds can also be observed in the reserve. Enjoy a stay at the Matane Wildlife Reserve in a campground or cabin. Spend a day or longer on the reserve and get the most out of your experience by exploring this exceptional wildlife territory, where moose roam freely.
We were prepared to see wildlife but it seems that the roads are not paved. A 45 minute drive into the viewing area are rock and gravel roads and a horror on cars. We made it to the ranger station and decided against going further. For a listed attraction, one might expect better road conditions for as much of the journey as possible. A disappointment!

What a great surprise to travel on a ferry that really cares about the comfort of its passengers!
Seating is very comfortable, spacious and abundant!
Windows are everywhere and well situated.
Dining has many flavours and Seating is great and again plentiful with many choices of entrees to suit everyone!
The ferry itself is extremely stable and in most cases you need to look out to make sure you are still moving!
I would highly recommend this ferry to any and everyone!

The International Appalachian Trail in Quebec (IAT-Qc) offers 650 km (400 miles) of trails with bucolic fields and steep cliffs overlooking the Gulf of Saint Lawrence, the Chic-Choc Mountains and the MacGerrigle plateau. The IAT-Qc offers an infinity of hiking opportunities that can extend from a day hike to a forty day adventure, with difficulty levels ranging from very easy to very hard.
This was an incredibily great way to spend a five day hike. Six of us in our group plus our guide whose knowledge of flora/fauna and professionalism were beyond reproach. Lodging was very comfortable and the meals were all at once, generous and tasty..... as were the trail lunches and snacks. Each of the huts are well furnished with comfortable bunk beds, nice kitchen facilities, a wood burning stove which we used each day and even once in the morning. Each hut has lots of DRY wood, which caught almost instantly and lots of hanging space for drying the wet clothes/boots/jacket etc. Unfortunately, lots of cloud and rain so the views were limited (except for the last day) but as a group of seven, we all banded together to make the best of what we had and we had a lot. There's a lot to be said about having your "night" bag or suitcase delivered to the next days' destination. All we carry is our "day" backpack. We had multiple sightings of moose and their calves and I'm talking close sightings, as in 30 feet from the balcony of our hut.
The hike in itself was occasionally strenuous but not difficult. Any seasoned hiker can easily accomplish this hike. This hike brought many fond memories. I highly and strongly recommend this hike with the S.I.A. / I.A.T.

As other reviewers said, it is a small, unassuming place - but - it's worth visiting when the salmon are running. There is a knowledgeable guide who tells you about the particular salmon that are currently in the "trap". They're there for your observation and will be freed soon. There is also a short movie worth watching which compliments the live salmon. Ask for the English version and the staff are happy to put it on. The grounds are nice to enjoy and for local history buffs there are some pictures, and a Fraser family old Bible! Good to do on a rainy day.

What a quaint little place. The former family home is crammed - over- stuffed even - with period artefacts but the real attraction is the retelling of the unusual family story by one of the grandchildren. This was a charming touch and living history. Our favourite exhibit was the bison fur coat.
