A small, delightful village of 150 whitewashed houses set in narrow streets with a castle above it. It is a location every tourist to the Alentejo must visit. The local câmara however needs to train its staff better. The lady in the tourist office couldn't give a welcoming smile, the young man in the castle ticket office was gruff and unfriendly and the women in the Casa Cultural couldn't respond when said good afternoon to. That said, it did not spoil my visit and wandering around the narrow streets admiring the sites and the views was a pleasure.

The tour of the Lagar Museu dos Galegos articulates the past and the present of the Northern region of the Alentejo, showing the full course of the product, from the entrance of the olives into the facilities, to the final acquirement of the delicious olive oil. On a trip to another century, the visitor will be able to the discover the machines, the scents, and the knowledge of the people who make the olive oil. We also provide na experience of diferente flavours and senses, with tastings of oil and of the farm’s season products, in a tranquil meeting at the oil makers’ kitchen. ____________________________________ Guided tours by appointment
Daniela greeted us with a friendly smile and a warm welcome. She was much more that a guide, in fact if you are looking for one of those tours where the "guide" just puts a tape on, this won't be for you!! Daniela is passionate about what she does, she is very knowledgeable and was great at sharing it us with enthusiasm. We felt like we were visiting a friend that showed us around. A friend that takes good pride of what he does! It was definitely very captivating. From the olive grove to the press room, including a olive oil tasting with local products, This was one of the best tours we have been. We didn't even see the time go by! Thank you so much for this great experience.

after you climb all the way to the Castle, and enjoy the amazing views from top of this mount located on the border with Spain, you can understand the strategic reasons and how difficult it must have been to attack it. A difficult walk upwards but on the other hand the views and walking the ramparts are worthwhile paying the entrance fee.
