Top 10 Things to do in Magnolia / Queen Anne, Washington (WA)

July 5, 2021 Stefan Strunk

In Seattle you simply can’t skip the Central Public Library – a modern architectural marvel of glass grids, unusual shapes, and a “book spiral” that climbs four stories. Stroll over to Pike Place Market to visit the original Starbucks and play catch with a fishmonger. In the heart of the city lies Chihuly Garden and Glass, which will dazzle you with its colorful and delicate works. Glide to the top of the Space Needle for panoramic views of the surrounding mountain ranges and Puget Sound.

Myrtle Edwards Park

A favorite with cyclists, rollerbladers and lunchtime picnickers.

Great stop after walking around downtown Seattle! Stumbled upon this area after walking around Space Needle/Center area. This park is right on the water, lots of benches to sit and enjoy the water and weather, and plants all around. I really liked this area and spent awhile listening to the water and watching the boats.

A lot of attractions are located at the Seattle Centre, and then some. We were coming here mainly for Chihuly Glass and Garden, the Space Needle, and the Museum of Pop Culture, all within walking distance of each other. The monorail ends/starts here. There is also the Pacific Science Centre, McCaw Hall venue (ballet, opera), the Armory (Food Court, festivals, activities), and free venues like the International Fountain, Artists at Play playground, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Discovery Centre, gardens, etc. It's the site of the 1962 World's Fair so it's a place of historic significance. Lots of tourists come here but it is also a community gathering place where festivals, movies and concerts are held. When we visited after Christmas, it was Winterfest, with an electric train complete with village to admire in the Armory, plus daily free performances on stage inside. Loved the festive vibe and would come back here again!

Queen Anne Hill

Residential neighborhood near Lake Union.

Reviewed By brmusicman - Chicago, United States

I spent a few days in Seattle and explored several neighborhoods. Upper Queen Anne was one of my favorites! It offered lovely views of the Seattle area, and the commercial area around Queen Anne Ave. was utterly charming, with lots of fun local stores, great coffee shops, and some excellent restaurants. Parking was a cinch; most of the local streets had free parking with restrictions of a couple of hours. It’s a great neighborhood for walking; there are great views and many beautiful homes, most in the craftsman style. Certainly worth a visit during a longer trip to Seattle.

Seattle Opera

Verdi's Rigoletto; not my choice to see but in Seattle at the time. Brilliant production really elevated the opera. But this building is a joy to move around in and has an auditorium with superb acoustics and perfect sightlines (unlike so many British houses like ROH and Glyndebourne). Lovely warm, friendly ushers and bar staff; audience felt friendly too. All good here in Seattle.

Teatro ZinZanni

Teatro ZinZanni's main event is part circus, part dinner theatre, and always magical. Described as "the Kit Kat Klub on acid" and "the hottest ticket in town" Teatro ZinZanni is a night out unlike any other. What an experience! We went to celebrate a big anniversary, and had a blast. Seamless entertainment (great production and support staff), stellar live musicians, talented performers of many sorts, performing jaw-dropping acts. The venue in Woodinville is in one of the few richly-appointed "Spiegeltents" left in the world. I was afraid I'd be cold in a tent in December; not at all. The appetizer and dessert were fixed (and delicious) items. There was a menu with choice of entrees (beef, fish, vegetarian and a vegan) with "upgrades" also available. Servers were attentive, unobtrusive, and occasionally part of the performance. Audience members participate as well in various scenarios; results can be hilarious! Photos and videos are not allowed during the performance, but a photographer will come by your table, and photos will be available (for $20) in the lobby before you exit. This was very expensive for us, but I don't regret a penny. It was simply amazing!
