Ornate, neo-Gothic structure built between 1889 and 1892.
This church is so beautiful it is truly a cathedral. Warm, welcoming congregation that truly opens their home to visitors. Make sure you sign the guest book when you enter to let them know that you were there. I was awe struck from the moment I arrived to climb the marble staircase. The inside is too magnificent for words. Every window in the church is stained glass and the statues are marble. The choir was wonderful and their voices resounded through the church. The church has an interesting history and a pamphlet is provided with all the information of the transformation over the years. We were in the area as evacuees of Hurricane Irma and the pastor recognized us all and had us rise for a special blessing. Thank you St. Joseph's for praying for us and letting us pray with all of you.

Richard who was working the day we went, was great! I am a poster collector. Richard showed me many drawers of posters for purchase. He was such a great help! We bought several. Just a great happy place to see some of the lyrics on paper (framed). I also loved the Christmas Tree ornaments.

A tribute to the Native American tribes that lived in the Macon area for 17,000 years.
The park has so much to do. The museum tells the story of the Ocmulgee Indians and how they lived. The ceremonial underground mound is amazing to see. It is so well preserved after a 1000 years. The Indian burial mounds are humbling and a wonderful way to honor the dead within the tribe. It is very peaceful and powerful to walk around knowing tribes worked the lands over 1000 years ago. The park has miles of great walking trails full of wildlife. It is a great place to have a family picnic or hike.

Hay House is a historic house museum and National Historic Landmark that is owned and operated by the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation. Guided tours of this antebellum mansion are offered daily.
My wife and I have visited many historic homes, but our experience was incredible. Lot's of times you are limited to how many areas you can see, but there is much to see here. Pretty incredible looking at furniture that is 150+ years old. Jeremey was our tour Docent and he really knew his stuff and made the visit even better than we expected. Make sure to do the "top floor" tour too!!

An example of a 19th-century cemetery park.
Stopped by Rose Hill on the way from Chattanooga to Savannah. Had planned to visit "the big house", but they were closed for maintenance, so we visited Duane, Gregg, and Berry's graves instead. Very beautiful scenery and history

I have attended many functions at the Grand Opera House. It is a beautiful venue. The acoustics are excellent. I have sat in a variety of sections, including the back row. There is not a bad seat in the house. The balcony seats are a little cramped for leg space, but you can see and hear just fine. The only seats I would not sit in again are the box seats. Unless you are the only one or two sitting in the box and can sit right up on the edge, you cannot see the stage. Parking is free, and there are many restaurants in the area for a pre-show dinner. An interesting tidbit; I've been told there is a trap door on the floor of the stage which was installed for Houdini when he performed at the Grand.

Features a fossilized whale said to be more than 40 million years old.
The Museum of Arts and Sciences in Macon, Georgia is hidden gem off the beaten path that can best be described as a destination spot for school field trips. This is not the Smithsonian; nor is it trying to be. What it is is an interesting collection of artifacts, displays of physics and highly educational for young and old alike with a curious mind. Certainly worth the nominal fee we paid to get in and a great way to spend a lazy afternoon! A stones throw from the Macon Little Theatre

It's pleasant, it's clean, it has a nice mixture of high- to-medium end stores and restaurants. It can be accessed from many directions and has a lot of parking. Frequent speed bumps make it safe to walk. It makes shopping and dining an enjoyable and relatively stress-free experience

Besides the usual brochures of local places, this space included a mural of local sights and a very enjoyable film (everyone in it ends up dancing). There is a gift shop, a space to promote visitation beyond Macon, and engaging staff. Easy parking on the street out front.
