Spirit Hound Distillery

Spirit Hound embodies the enterprising spirit of the old west, a passion for fine spirits, and our own discoveries in how to distill beverages with high quality and uniquely drinkable character. Our spirits are made with local ingredients such as freshly-picked Rocky Mountain juniper berries and Colorado-grown and -malted barley. We built much of our own distillation equipment to capture all of the purity and flavor and make sure it gets into every bottle we sell - and every glass you drink.

Stopped in with friends we were visiting. We are from Texas. Tried the whiskey, gin and moonshine. Bought the whiskey and the gin. We had a couple of cocktails each. Bloody Mary's and the gin Moscow mules. All of the drinks were very good. Both my wife and our friend had the drink of the day. They both loved their drinks.

Our server was very attentive and friendly. He let me taste the moonshine, whiskey and gin.

I would highly recommend this place!

An institution in itself, when I informed a friend that I was visiting Longmont, she immediately stated that I needed to visit the brewery. I am glad that I did because I now know why it is considered an institution, nitro infused beer – sort of like Guinness! A relatively small place, looks like a converted log house, but it’s homey and the beer outstanding.
I’m a visitor so it doesn’t affect me, but not being dog friendly seems so out of the place in outdoorsy Colorado, thus the decrement in rating.
My visits to the area will include a visit to the Left Hand Brewery.

Lyons Classic Pinball

Reviewed By Steve C - Englewood, Colorado

I've been going to Lyons Classic Pinball for years and Carole and Kevin are great owners of this fun arcade where you can play mostly pinball games of all eras, but also some video games. They take care of their games to ensure they play as designed and Kevin is a wealth of information about the history of each game in the arcade.

Looking for the most recent game that has been released - they have you covered. Want to play some old electro-mechanicals - they've got them too, and if you like the 70s/80s solid state games you'll find those as well. They also feature the largest pinball game ever made (Hercules) which has a "pinball" the size of a cue ball.

One nice feature of this arcade is that the games are frequently rotated in and out so that you can play games you may never see anywhere else. Keeps things "fresh."

Kevin, a musician himself, always plays interesting music from multiple eras on his sound system. I often find myself asking who the musical group is that is playing so I can buy it.

They can also hold parties via reservations, and they hold a once per month pinball tournament where players can attain World Pinball Player Rankings points. Kevin can also answer questions about any games that may be for sale or where to find parts or repairs.

So if you are looking for a cheap way to have lots of fun, visit Lyons Classic Pinball. Known world-wide as a must-see Pinball arcade.

There is a "fee" for this attraction, but that amounts to the player needing to insert quarters into a game to start it up. Most games have the original price to play so it wouldn't be unusual to play a classic game for just a quarter.

Rabbit Mountain

Reviewed By Jodi R - Loveland, Colorado

We are avid hikers, and are always looking for locations that permit us to bring our Siberian Husky to hike with us (on leash).

We hiked all of the various loops at Rabbit Mountain with our dog a couple days following some snowfall, and had minimal crowds as a result, which was fantastic. Trails (in my opinion) are easy (to moderate in some areas). Lovely 360 views from the top, and great trail conditions overall. These are well maintained trails.

We didn't encounter any dogs off leash, which we appreciated, but based on other reviews, maybe just a lucky experience on our end. Either way, we were pleased.

There is a sunscreen dispenser at the trailhead (nice touch), for those who may have forgotten theirs, bags for your dog, and bathroom facilities...all super clean and well maintained. There is limited parking, so do plan accordingly on the weekends or days you may think will be busy, and arrive early.

Great trail system with several options to shorten or lengthen your time on the trail. Close to town, so an easy hike to fit into a busier day.

Lyons Farmette

Reviewed By ColoradoCat - Colorado

The Farmette is a modern day small farm, barely a mile outside of the small quaint downtown of Lyons. It offers rental space for weddings, workshops, fundraisers, food-tasting, business gatherings, art shows and more. In addition to the wide open large lawn where these events take place, it has a lovely big garden (a small field) that grows healthy veggies and traditional flowers, which they sell on their market day. A river runs through a corner of their property, which adds to the ambiance, and has many large trees. There are goats and hens in a large grassy, caged-in area. Workshops include bee keeping, cheese making, composting, and more; plus an annual Permaculture Certification Course. Everything is open for guests to wander around. The layout of the grounds will appeal to an artistic photographer, as well as a adventuresome child.

Western Stars Gallery and Studio

Reviewed By ColoradoCat - Colorado

What a surprise when you walk in the door! Such variety and high quality items, and reasonable prices. Every corner is artistically decorated. As the name insinuates, most of it (all?) has a Western feel to it -- leather, paintings, Native American styles, jewelry, etc. The store is owned and run by three local artists with long and varied backgrounds, who love to answer questions. They support their small town and its nonprofits thru free rent of their art room, donations, etc. And that friendliness and caring is reflected in their displays. Some times you just enjoy looking at things in an exciting shop like this, but in this case, I found myself wanting to buy a dozen item, and forcing myself to "breath deep" and take my time! They have original art cards on up to fine Western style furniture; some Western antiques, and lots of animal items (drawings, cards, etc). == They have classes, including a wine/sip and draw, and artists who come and talk about their work. They have about six artists on call to do this kind of thing. == They are connected to a nice restaurant with bar area, and outside seating.

Lyons Redstone Museum

Reviewed By ColoradoCat - Colorado

The museum has artifacts from the town's history (like the original large attractive wooden bank teller's cage) but also items that anybody interested in history would enjoy (even an arrowhead collection, and a old-time living room/kitchen setup). On the first floor is a big room with historical items, filling just about every inch. The other first floor room is an archives for locals, and a knick-knack gift shop. It has thousands of used books for sale, and new history books on all local towns (with about 6 on Lyons). Upstairs they have a big room with old B&W photos of the early days of Lyons, including on its famous red sandstone history that started the town and is still successful today, and all high school grad pix. Informed curators tell the story of the town forming and of the 1881 old schoolhouse that was converted to the museum in the 1970s. It's free but "donations appreciated." It's open in summer only and is 1 block off Main St.
