Owned and operated by local Usambarians: Ally, Isaac, Chris and Anthony, who appreciate diversity and preservation of the natural environment in Africa. with our guides you will hike into our magical and sacred land. Based in the Mtae village, on the top of the mountain, at the end of the road, Usambara Eco Tours are remote, yet accessible, Situated 58 kms up an unpaved road from the old German capitol city of Lushoto, we would love to welcome visitors from all over the world to share the spectacular beauty and our unique sambaa cultural treasures. Irente Biodiversity Reserve is a nature reserve, organic farm and lodging a few kilometers outside Lushoto. Sporting lush rainforests, with over a 100 recorded bird species, wetlands and a beautiful waterfall it is a destination in its own right. The terrace restaurant serves a variety of foods and snacks from the farm's produces while offering a stunning view of the farm and surrounding hills and valleys.Home made rye bread, butter, cheese, jam and juice and vegetables and fruits are served both in the restaurant and available in the shop. Accommodation is available to cater for all tastes and budget. A well equipped campsite is also in place, with easy access to the farm and restaurant.
My group of 16 foreign students stayed at the various hostel rooms at the Irente Farm Lodge and they absolutely loved their experience. We were able to reserve them rooms at an affordable rate and the staff at the hostel was very helpful and friendly. Rooms were very clean and separated by gender. Myself and my colleagues were provided ideal accommodations separate from the group. Safety was never an issue and all the group's property was secure. The meals at the farm restaurant were preplanned and, this is not an understatement, it has incredible food and the chefs can cater to whatever dietary restriction that you might have. The cheese and bread made on the farm can compete with the best European products. A delicacy in a region where cheese is almost taboo. Our students voted the meals at the farm as their favorite during the course of their 4 month course. I would highly recommend staying here whether you are traveling in a group or just a solo traveler. Lushoto is a quaint and lively town as well. Do not miss this place if you are coming to Usambaras!
