Top 10 Things to do in Lower East Side, New York (NY)

June 5, 2021 Cedrick Jardin

Conquering New York in one visit is impossible. Instead, hit the must-sees – the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty, Central Park, the Metropolitan Museum of Art – and then explore off the beaten path with visits to The Cloisters or one of the city’s libraries. Indulge in the bohemian shops of the West Village or the fine dining of the Upper West Side. The bustling marketplace inside of Grand Central Station gives you a literal taste of the best the city has to offer.

The Lower East Side Jewish Conservancy

The Lower East Side, a neighborhood that has embodied the hopes and struggles for generations of newcomers to America, a place where hundreds of thousands of immigrants embarked on their road to the American dream. The Lower East Side Jewish Conservancy (LESJC,) is a non-profit organization in existence since 1998, whose primary goal is to preserve the synagogues of the LES, the most famous immigrant neighborhood in America. As a result of our efforts, many have been designated historic landmarks and listed on the NY State and National Register. In part because of our help, a 32-block area of the Lower East Side was designated a Historic District in September 2000. Our mission now is to share this heritage. We accomplish this by giving customized private, and occasional public tours showcasing the neighborhood and its landmarked sites. Our tours are unique in that we are the only ones to take our visitors into all the synagogues, allowing them to be experienced from the inside.

We attended the 6:30pm class on Saturday August 10th. I booked it to celebrate our wedding anniversary. All of the staff was very friendly and informative. We learned a lot about how to make pizza at home in your own oven using simple ingredients and tools. The class started off by making our own dough from scratch. While our dough was rising, the staff created four pizzas for us to try. Then it was time to make our own. After sampling the sauce and some cheeses we took our dough and created four pizzas however we chose. We decided to create a margarita, classic NY pepperoni, a white pizza and last a desert pizza. We ended up taking home almost three whole pizzas. At the end of the night we went home satisfied, stuffed and with plenty of leftovers and happy memories. We cannot wait to give this as a gift for others to experience. This is a must do if you like pizza and great for a date night.

Call another website and you'll likely ride with the first person the administrator can get a hold of. Every pedicab is an independent business - not an employee. Want more certainty you'll get a first rate guide? If you call/email/text me I will be doing your tour if possible. My name is Laramie Flick. I've been riding a pedicab since 2004 and doing tours of Central Park since 2008. I'm from California but have a degree in history from a small English College, and write/do standup on the side. I pride myself in offering tours that our both interesting and true. If anyone tells you you're going to see the famous Friend's Fountain - they're lying unless you're touring a Warner Brother's Lot in Hollywood.
