We stayed in the beautiful treehouse overnight. We were unable to do the gin class as I found out just before we stayed that I was pregnant... so just wanted to say thank you for making our stay so utterly magical from start to finish and being so accommodating. We loved absolutely everything, from the food delivered to our door, the beautiful furnishings, the craftsmanship of the treehouse, fairy lights everywhere and the cosiest nights sleep ever. Everything was perfect, and although it was only a mile from our house, we really felt like we were on holiday. I can now cross staying at a treehouse off my bucket list! Highly recommend this place to anyone looking for an alternative and truly relaxing getaway - and with such lovely hosts! Thank you again x x x

A great 13th century circular keep standing on an earlier Norman mound, atop a high spur beside the River Fowey. Twice visited by the Black Prince, it finally saw action during the Civil War. Commanding fantastic views, it makes an excellent picnic spot. Child friendly and dog friendly.

Lostwithiel is an ancient stannary (tin-mining) town and, though the river has now almost completely silted up, was once a very important port on the South coast, even perhaps second only to Southampton during the 1200s. The old Duchy palace just up the road once belonged to the Black Prince, the first Duke of Cornwall. The bridge was originally an enormous project, built of wood, with no fewer than 9 arches, of which 5 still remain. It once stretched from the station area, right up North St to around where the Globe Inn is. The river Fowey was clearly much wider back then. The bridge was built at the point on the river where the full tide stopped flowing any further up the estuary. There are lovely views from it up and down the river, though please watch out for the traffic which still uses it. Before the relief road was built in the 1930s, this narrow bridge was a tremendous bottleneck on the main road leading through Cornwall to Plymouth. On market day, with cattle and sheep also being herded over the bridge to the market square (now the free parking outside the surgery), you can imagine how all could become mayhem, with frightened animals apparently sometimes jumping over the sides into the river. Ouch. A popular grassy picnic place, complete with tables, now exists just downstream of it, which is a delightful spot to sit in the sunshine. It's also a fairly safe, pleasant and now cattle-free place for children of all ages to play in the river (though some locals really object to this area being called a 'beach', as it's not).

The museum is housed in a Georgian building on Fore Street. It was originally the Corn Exchange and has also been a school-room, a butchers, then a magistrate's court and the town jail. Nowadays the building houses the Guildhall, which is used for meetings of Lostwithiel Town Council, above the museum. The museum was founded in 1972 and it is now is now a fully accredited museum and a registered charity, which is run entirely by volunteers. During the summer season the museum organise weekly guided Heritage Walks around Lostwithiel. No prior booking is needed for these regular walks, which last about 90 minutes.
